Type of Muffler for Turbo Applications?

I remember reading a while back that flowmasters arent really the way to go with a turbo setup that they create too much backpressure. Is that true? will it hurt performance? Or would it be better to go with like a Dynomax bullett. I think the ponydown car has flowmasters on it... I really like the flowmaster sound but would wanna go with the best choice for turbo....

I just don't want the car to sound like shit. Cant seem to find any vids with turbo cars that specify what exhaust they are running

As STated....Nothing chambered......Get a straight through design. If you are looking for something very quiet you can used chambered but it will effect performance. Just make sure when you tune it you have your final exhaust on the car.

With my turbo set up I went with MAC pro dumps......I really liked how that sounded.

I ran a dynomax ultra flo, its an oval straight thru muffler. it was fairly quiet and i ran with the full exhaust and open down pipe, ran the same ET both ways

here's a video when i was testing. first 2 passes were with exhaust, last 2 are open down pipe

Thanks for the vid. Did you stay with single exhaust or did you Y it out and run 2 mufflers?

my 4" muffler

one thing to remember about turbos is that the sound will only be affected by a muffler style during idle and part throttle. During WOT it sounds pretty much the same across the board. I also wanted something different sounding so I bought a 4" Spintech.......results were it sounded like an old turd turbo car. I put a Dynomax bullet on it, it sounded the same.

Its hard to get a turbo car to sound cool like they do when they are NA/Supercharger/NOS.

Here is my car with a home built aluminum exhaust and muffler. Its a 4" single.

Yeah, im not a fan of the way a mustang sounds at idle with a straight through exhaust. I think i might just try the dynomax ultra flow

I'm running mufflers on mine, haven't decided on what ones yet, but I want it QUIET. Any suggestions?

the further back from the engine the muffler is the more effective it will be. IE if you can put bullets at the bumper and put the exhuast out the bumper. it should be most bearable.

I'll be running tailpipes, but the mufflers will be before the axle. The mufflers I have now are a straight through design, maybe I'll try those first before I drop any cash on new ones. I really like the way it sounds with them, I just think it might be a bit loud. I'm trying to tame the car down a bit. We'll see when I get to that point.

Thanks Sean
