TV over fireplace

Hey guys, anybody got a TV over their fireplace? I got this drop down tv mount called the Down and Out Mount. I mounted it over my fireplace and it pulls out and drops down all in one smooth motion. It's awesome. Craftsmanship is second to none. There is nothing else like it.

I was tired of my TV stuck in the corner with this huge obnoxious TV stand taking up so much room. Then my son started to crawl up the stand and turn the TV off all the time. This mount solved all those problems and looks awesome. Easy to install too. The website is: https://www.dynamicmounting.com/

They off you a $100 rebate also, so that is very nice!

Since the fireplace is built into a firebox, I couldn't get behind there. And not wanting to tear up drywall to patch and paint, I drilled a hole in the basement that put me into the hollow area of the mantel. I then drilled a hole in the top of the mantel and hid the wires against the wall/mantel corner. Technically, you can still see them if you walk up and look, but from viewing areas, the cable box hides the small section they come out. Since this picture I also ordered 1 right angle and 1 left angle HDMI cable end so the HDMI cable isn't sticking straight up like shown in the last pic, (where I used a swivel HDMI end).

I've been in thew new house for a year. I didn't want it either since it's a little too high for the size of the room and my living room is set up so stupid. I was sick of it in the corner, and I stumbled upon this drop down mount and was sold on it. It drops down up to 31 inches, depending on mantel size. I got 26.5" of drop down movement. Frees up a lot of space for my son to run around also.

I'm usually not a fan of TV's above the fireplace due to height. But that is a very cool mount. I dig it.

I looked at that mount when I was redoing my computer setup. $500 for a mount...no thanks. You can buy another TV for that price.

The guy gives you $100 rebate also, so it ends up costing $400 when all said and done.

Monoprice has a drop down mount, mounting on a single stud for $71.51 shipped. I bought that first trying to save money and it could not handle the 44lb max weight it claimed. Arms bending, drywall cracking, plus it loosened all the joints where the two arms swivel. I removed it immediately. I mounted a small 10lb 32" TV on it at work and it works great. So if you were still looking for a drop down, this one can handle computer monitors and light weight TV's.

Monoprice mounts aren't bad, just make sure you get quality lag bolts because the stuff they come with will make you want to destroy things.

Yeah, the monoprice drop down mount I bought sucked for the 44lb TV, which was the max weight. It wasn't safe. BUT I just threw it up at work for this little TV and it's perfect. I had a return RMA and everything, but I just decided to keep it.

If you have access to get to the fireplace from below, you can get cables up there without cutting the drywall. I do 2-3 of them a week, piece of cake. That is, provided it isn't an older home and you have a brick hearth. You have to cut drywall then.
