Turbo LS1 Trans Am?

Anyone know of a good twin turbo or single turbo setup for my trans am? I have a 01 WS6 automatic. I really dont know about the STS kit just because of personal prefrence. I havent found much info on kits I can buy for a LS1. I did find one one time, but it was like $12,000 or something rediculous like that. I was thinking in the range of 3-5K. Maybe just buying a big turbo(s), intercooler and making all the plumbing myself.

I dont really have a problem fabracating my own plumbing, but if I could find a prefabed kit it would be best. And where the hell do I find turbo manifolds for a LS1??

Sooooooo...turbo V8 guys....wadda you reccomend? I would like to get input on this topic, so anything that you wanna share is welcomed.

2 good turbos and a intercooler setup alone will run you over 3-5k easy unless you do all the shit yourself

$3 to 5K won't cut it, even if you fabbed everything up yourself. You can double that and you might have enough. There is a lot of stuff to consider when dealing with turbocharging. I'd keep away from STS, ground clearance becomes an issue. Anyone I've talked to has had nothing good to say about them.

Clearance is an issue on the LS1's. Most twin setups require the loss of your A/C. Here's a quick checklist for you to look at:

Aftermarket k-member for clearance
Are you going to build up the engine?
Are you going to build up the transmission?
Are you going to upgrade the stock rear?

Suspension mods?
Fuel system (pump, injectors)?
Tuning & gauges?

Just some things on the top of my head. I'm in the midst of turbocharging my TA, I'll let you know how it goes.

I suggest you log on to LS1tech.com and surf the forced induction forum. There are a bunch of sponsors that offer kits for the LSx f-bodies. It all depends how much you want to spend. A lot of guys making do it yourself kits are using LSx truck manifolds reversed and fabbing up the y-pipe to the Turbo.

Read a bunch of the threads over there. There are lots of pictures and a ton of know how as many guys have built numerous different set-ups.

I hope to eventually be turbo'd myself. I have lurked on LS1tech soaking up as much input as I can so I will be ready when I can afford to do so. Good luck and feel free to ask for help if you need any fabbing up your kit (if you go that route).

yeah, you better have like 10k socked away to get a proper kit, install, and all other supporting hardware, minimum

plan for it this way.

cheap turbo kit 4-6K, used etc. up tp 8-10k
rear (it will go eventually) 2-2500K
driveshaft 350+
clutch 500-1k
injectors, 200+
fuel pump or system 300-1200 ish
tune, 400+
M6 rebuild 800+ OR
Auto rebuild 1500+???
Suggest valvesprings+retainers minimum or ported 6.0l heads 350-1100
catback 200+

then you'll want an intake if its an ls1 300+
kmember with control arms 800
Guages boost and fuel pressure 350-400?
SFC's 250?
Panhardbar 1-200?
rear lca's with relocation brackets 150-250?

thats if you run 6-8psi, lol.

go for 10+ psi and you'll want a cage 6pt minimum 450-900 used vs installed etc.
possibly meth injection (for safety AND more power) plus youi'll save over race gas at the track when its hot out. 400-450+

Then factor in all the little htings that will kill you that I missed, lol.

It adds up fast.

then the motor will go, so add in another 3500-6K depending on how much you cheap out.

and to answer your question about manifolds; I believe some have used truck manifolds upside down and built from there.
