Tuning a lease vehicle

If the vehicle goes in for service take the tune out and hope the issue can't be traced back to the tune. If so, the manufacturer may void the warranty which could put you in a trick bag at the end of the lease. Never had that scenario happen here, but I know it has at other places.

Could you pull the factory installed computer from the car, get a junkyard/reman and tune that one. Then if you need to, swap the factory untuned one back later?

It depends a lot who it is through. GMAC (Allied now) is pretty lenient. I have never been charged wear from them - and I have turned in pickup trucks with all kinds of dings and scratches. My dad got a lease through a bank once, though, and got absolutely boned on the turn in. It varies a ton.

Matt, what could a manufacturer do? what do you mean "trick bag?"
Considering 2015 mustang lease (obviously depending on lease terms).

I've tuned just about ever car I've ever owned... I even turned in a lease with a tune.

This was also a lease... it had a little more than just a tune :D

Livernois Intercooled Turbo Kit
Bassani Exhaust
Baer Brakes
Ground Force Lowering Kit
5 TV's and a massive system with 3 square Kicker 10's every speaker in the truck replaced

I remember seeing that truck at Milan I think.

You can turn it back in with the stock tune
I have tuned 5 different lease cars and turned them back in with no issues

Now also I did not do any real aggressive tuning, just basic stuff
I wouldn't worry about it to be honest

I had a friend that put in another gauge cluster in their old 08 f150 lease because he was getting close to his mileage limit. He ended up driving another 10k or more on that cluster and swapped back to the original before turning in the truck. I think tuning and returning back to stock isnt that bad lol.

I'm sure you saw me at Milan. I used to take it quite a bit. Also drove it to FL and surprised some cars at the steer race scene lol

On low boost it would run low-mid 13's. On higher boost with an open down pipe it ran high 12's.

it was 6,055 lbs with me in it.

Ill post some videos later

If you tune a car, it comes into service for an issue and the manufacturer inspects the vehicle they can void the warranty. At the end of the lease, the leasing company may charge you because the warranty has been voided since the vehicle isn't really yours. We haven't had it happen, but I've heard of it happening.

People modify leases all the time, getting caught is just a chance you will have to take.
