Transfer title

Do I need to have insurance before I can get registration?
Car is a part car, or beater that I'm working on putting back together.
Don't have insurance yet but I want to go transfer title so I can get it in my name.

Title only you should be fine, if you want registration you will need insurance

To title a car, no insurance is required. To register a car (get plates) you need insurance.

X2. I have transferred quite a few titles with no insurance. The only time you need it is when you are transferring a plate or getting registration.

actually you can transfer a plate with out a proof of insurance FYI. I've done it numerous times back before it was so easy to get a new proof through email and etc.

I was unaware of that. What if it still has a tab that is still good?

I've done it at least 6 times and they have never asked

It's hit and miss for me. Maybe its not suspected much in your area of sos branches for criminal/scam activity.
