Trans question

So I got myself a running 454 and turbo 400 out of a 4x4 yesterday for $250! What I need to know is can the 400 be converted to a short tailshaft very easily? I've never really messed with automatics much other than to remove and replace them.

Its not hard for a transmission guy. The entire transmission must be disassembled, desired length installed on the rear planet along with the proper matching tail housing.

I've decided that I'm going to go with a 200r4...if I can find one out here!

I'm never thrilled with using a 2004r in anything but a gn.
There are some guys out there that have dedicated their entire career around that trans and trying to make them last behind big hp with pretty good success.
Multipliable problems you run into. They work OK for just a cruiser. As long as your not too fussy about shift timing, rpm of wot up shifts, speedometer calibrations.
For starters, you need to start with a BR coded gn transmission. Almost every part is improved over a stock 2004r.
If you get serious, call my shop and Ill give you a laundry list of do's and dont's.

It's going to be a cruiser. I want the extra gear and don't want to go with a 700 because I don't really have a shop out here that can cut and balance a drive shaft for me. Plus, I'm really not sure how to measure it so it comes out correct.
