Totally blowing through the converter to redline?

I just installed my new trans and Yank PT4400 converter. It is SUPER loose and when I go WOT it immediately hits redline like nothing is there. This happens in every gear. Im going to call the manufacturer tomorrow to see whats up...

Have any of you guys had an issue like this in the past? If so, what was the cause and how did you fix it?

Checked your fluid levels?

yep, nothing is low. Its actually reading high if anything (as far as the dipstick says). I've had a really tough time reading the dipstick for some reason, it looks like it has fluid 2 inches past the full line

Wow.... Having too much fluid is just as bad as having too little if not worse.

But would usually only cause the seals to push fluid...not usually his issue. I'd the say the converter is not right. We had one do that after a year of racing, turned out the stator was messed up, we got it repaired.

I talked to Dave @ Yank and he said that the PT series is going to be too much for my power level. But, he was the one who spec'd it in the first place.

Im sending the converter back to them and they are going to cut it open, check it out (fix it if needed), and if its fine they are going to restall it to an SS series.

I'm not saying that's the cause, just stating that could be an issue when it is working properly. It is in the converter itself, I would bet.

I hope it is and not the trans. Im going to go a little tighter with the converter this next time around.

This is my first experience with an automatic, and its not giving me a good first impression

Had nothing but sucess with yank products. Sometimes shit happens. Did they stepup to the plate and get it fixed ?

I dunno if they got his converter yet, he brought another to ridings and he freshened it up for him so hes good to go. Just waiting to see what happened to the yank.

I'm not sure if they buy their covers from precision or not. They look identical. I always assumed they did. If not they just copied them. They are a quality piece for sure. Not sure who answers their phones though. Every time I have called they were total assholes.
I even considered looking into a dealer for them, but not a chance after speaking to them.

Sean - They did not help me out one bit, just told me that there is no chance that they could have screwed up. Whatever.

They buy some of their pieces from precision, but they are not identical inside. There are a few differences between a Vig and a Yank. The PT series converters in general are the least appealing (build wise). They are good for making stall speed but dont transfer power as they should. The PT4400 has a negative fin angle which makes this worse.

The funny part about the whole thing is that DAVE HIMSELF spec'd me the 4400, and now when I called him, he told me I'd blow through it and my shift point is not high enough, yada, yada.

It has been good dealing with a guy like Mike Ridings, he definately knows his shit and actually explains everythign to me. Thanks a ton!

they used to be easy to deal with. Maybe things changed ? I haven't bought from them in 3-4 years now as I deal with a local supplier for alot of my needs.

I've been hearing a few things as of late from some credible people that they are not as good (or friendly) as they seem

I was helping a friend with a WS6 and they had bought a Yank convertor. Complete Junk..exact opposite of your problem, wouldn't stall at all. not sure of the P/N but it was a 3400, and would not get to 1600 RPM. They were told explicitly how much power and torque the car made, and supplied the dyno sheets at their request. Even gave a detailed break down of the car and the parts, again as they request. At first I wasn't too pissed about it, figured hey usually got to get it adjusted anyway, at least one time......But for them to just avoid it?

Tried to call them 22 times over a month, and left several messages, they would not even call back.

Yank sucks...and there are WAY better companies out there.

I gave them specs of my setup and EVERYTHING they needed to make a good decision. FAIL big time on their part.

The only thing I hate more about a bad product, is a company that wont stand behind said product
