Torque Converter Choice

Thats not a bad kit. Here is what I would install with it.

700 2&3 kit. I have no idea who makes the vacum modulator kit but I know its out there. Check with CK transmission. They may have it or FBPerformancetransmission

The vacuum mod would be high on my list with a turbo car.

I have heard of that issue before.

BTW: I went with this rebuild kit from Dana @ Probuilt for this current rebuild.

Will this help solve that problem with the line pressure? I know I have heard Dana talk about it before.

I'm not doubting your scenario. I can see how that could happen also.

I guess I will send the converter over to Mike to see what he can gather from it and maybe find out what caused it and go from there. Is that possible Mike or is there no real way to figure out what exactly caused this to happen?

I suspect the only thing that i'll see cutting it apart is a lock up disc that looks new, but probably a little hot from fluid temp and bearings that got hot. Probably a lot of clutch material from the trans. When this trans gets hot {normal trans temp is 185 and down} it has a tendency to stick a TV valve and cause line pressure rise issues which can cause anything from wrong gear starts to 3-4 clutches that burn up in a hurry. Dana at probuilt sells a very comprehensive kit for building the 700,4l60,4l60-e. Base line pressure in his kits are typically 85 psi at idle with wot pressures from 250-280. Without seeing the trans apart {don't know if terry would let me poke around} it would be difficult to tell you exactly went wrong.

Mike.

Hmm...this sort of gets complicated then.

Sean, what do you want to do here? The transmission is already at Phil's Transmission (a very reputable place that Mike has already noted) starting to be taken apart on the table. Does it have to be Mike? If so, I guess I could call Terry and see if Mike is allowed to come look at it to give a second opinion due to the situation.

Who built the trans to start with?

Pioneer out in Lapeer built the trans a long time ago but it was with just normal parts (this was before the engine swap and such). And to tell you the truth, I can't remember who put the new TC in. It could have been Stenod or CARS. I can't remember.

Who rebuilt the trans with the pro-built parts and was the converter swapped in then or was it later down the road?

Have Mike come out and look at it. My advice is to let him see what he sees. I am going to agree with Mike that it sounds like a line pressure issue. Typicall problem with that transmission. Could be about 2 dozen things but to be honest its not a TCC clutch fialure from the sounds out of it.

how long did the trans work once you swapped in the LC2. It sounds like pioneer did a decent job of rebuilding the trans {maybe not exactly for perfromance apps}for it application back then, but then the LC2 came in and beat it around. Is there a trans cooler installed?

Yes it has a 12k gvw B&M plate cooler. very efficient.

Eh, it isn't really a question of how long but for how many miles. I would say maybe 1500 miles.

Yes, there is a nice B&M trans cooler.

Got a call back from CK Performance. They cracked open the TC and the lining had to be replaced but it was because the TC wasn't being properly locked up. It was from the burnt out clutches in the transmission.

So they have to put new lining on the converter and thats it. 150 bucks and it is back to me.

So transmission is rebuilt and finished with a lot better/stronger parts, and the TC is being sent back to me tomorrow.

Thanks to Sean and Mike on helping me figure this out.
