One of my headlights was pretty oxidized. Toothpaste worked pretty damn good!
try rubbing compound, that will work even better!

That is a pretty noticeable difference but if you really want results, here's my process.
DA with 800 then 1500. Three step polish with this (http://www.harborfreight.com/3-inch-pneumatic-polisher-kit-99934.html) and some Mother's Polish. Here's my results.

The wet sand/compound works out great. You can restore the rear lights the same way. They'll look like new.

No. You're removing the dried yellow plastic. Went you sand them, you'll see it coming off.

Temporary fix (like tooth paste). Better than nothing, though.

Some vehicles respond better than others. This job pictured above is one of the better ones I've seen. I do this at the shop before we sell them. Some come out 100%. Some only come out 50% better. Depends on how far gone they were to start. Sometimes I've seen them so heavily faded...they start to develop stress cracks all the way through.
