To Protect and Serve...

I do NOT hate cops! I hate BAD cops! I am thankful and appreciative of the police department. We NEED police. All I am saying is we absolutely MUST hold them accountable to the rules and they must be fair and professional in their jobs. I don't care if their job is hard, they know what they signed up for. If the money they make doesn't justify them being fair, they should pursue other careers.

I agree that my statement that good cops are the minority is not based on factual evidence and that I might have let my keyboard get away from me. That might not be true. But I do know for a fact that many, many unprofessional and unaccountable officers roam the country on a daily basis with guns and attitudes. That is a fact.

I agree with you on that.

You've got a family getting out of the fucking SUV, not fucking NWA.

I can see where you're coming from since you know all the facts but remember...

The cop didn't know at the time when they were first pulled over what was going on and what was happening... Nothing was ran through the computer... Things were blind for him at first...

I can tell you 100% fact that cops FEAR two things... When they can't see nobody's hands... And when they don't control a situation and can't see everyone and what they're doing...

When those two things don't happen... BAD things happen...

I don't agree with what happened after he was informed...

Before that... That's totally up to debate...

I think I've made it abundantly clear that I agree with that. As did the DPD in their statements.

Cop who stopped NFL player in hospital lot resigns
By JAMIE STENGLE, Associated Press Writer
DALLAS (AP)—The police officer who pulled out his gun and threatened an NFL player with jail instead of allowing him inside a hospital where his mother-in-law was dying resigned Wednesday.

Officer Robert Powell had been placed on paid leave pending an investigation of the March 18 incident.

“I made this decision in the hope that my resignation will allow the Dallas Police Department, my fellow officers and the citizens of Dallas to better reflect on this experience, learn from the mistakes made, and move forward,” Powell said in a statement issued through his attorneys.

He had stopped Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats’ SUV outside Baylor Regional Medical Center in suburban Plano after the vehicle rolled through a red light.

The officer pulled out his gun and threatened Moats with jail as the player and his family pleaded to be allowed to go inside the hospital. Powell continued writing Moats a ticket and lecturing him even after a fellow officer confirmed that Moats’ mother-in-law was dying.

Jonetta Collinsworth, 45, died of breast cancer before Powell allowed Moats to go inside the hospital.

Powell’s resignation was first reported by Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT. He later issued an apology, and Moats said he would accept it.

“I still hope to speak with the Moats family to personally express my deep regret, sympathy, and to apologize for my poor judgment and unprofessional conduct,” he said in the Wednesday statement.

He also said he wanted to apologize to his fellow officers.

A call to Dallas police was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Dallas police Chief David Kunkle previously apologized to the family and said Powell acted inappropriately. He also lauded Moats’ restraint, noting that he did not try to seek special treatment by identifying himself as an NFL player.

Moats, 26, explained that he had waited until there was no traffic before continuing through the red light. When Powell asked for proof of insurance, Moats grew more agitated and told the officer to go find it.

According to video from a dashboard camera inside the officer’s vehicle, Moats’ wife, Tamishia Moats, and another woman disregarded Powell’s order to get back inside their vehicle, and they rushed into the hospital. After Powell yelled at Tamishia Moats to stay in the SUV, she said, “Excuse me, my mom is dying—do you understand

hmmmm

It didn't help that other people were coming forward with complaints against him as well.
I think it was very clear based on his attitude in the stop that this was probably normal procedure for him. A typical, powertripping asshole cop, who's right no matter what, nobody will tell him otherwise or he'll lock you up, etc.... Now he's getting roasted and the public and the police force are better off because of it.

I've been pulled over a BUNCH of times... and half of them are assholes just like this guy, and the other half are really polite and professional (and no, my opinion has nothing to do with who gave me a ticket and who didn't)

Police departments have gotten away with employing BULLIES for far too long.

I don't think its any different in the police field then any other job. You have no idea who your getting until you get them. I can't imagine a police department saying "let's hire this guy, I bet he'll be a real bully". Somebody that looks good on paper might not pan out so well as a cop. Luck of the draw I guess.

I got ( pulled over ) for doing 70 in a 35 taking my kid to the hospital a few years back . the cop hit his lites I pulled over I explained what I was doing and the cop told to hold down to around 50 the rest of the way to the hospital

if the prima donna football player had done the same thing he would have been let off!!!!

for those of you that hate cops SHAME ON YOU!!!!
they are doing the job we pay them to do !!!!

Like I said before, if he was a few miles from the hospital that would be one thing.....he was literally right around the corner. If you've followed this story at all you'd realize that this dude is the farthest thing from a diva baller.

I'm not hating on cops. I'm hating on this cop for being a stubborn jackass.

He quit! I didn't want to see that happen but at least he took responsibility, for his actions.

And would YOU fuckers stop with the football shit it was never brought up in the conflict......DAMN!!!!

Come on, do you honestly think that's the only traffic law he broke on the way to the hospital? It's the only one he got caught breaking. Well that and failing to stop for the police. I imagine everyone that seen him running lights were prolly bitching about the police not ever being around when you need them.

This post shows a complete failure to grasp the discussion

That was where the cop tried to pull him over genius.

No, it's extremely different. When you hire a police officer you are giving them a TREMENDOUS amount of power and authority over other people's lives. Different than any other job? Can a McDonald's employee put me in prison? Shoot me? Ruin my life by trumping up bullshit charges?

he screening process needs to be more comprehensive and when problems become evident they need to be dealt with instead of being covered up with the "code of silence"

He was a few hundred yards from the hospital, he put his hazards on to acknowledge the officer, and he pulled into a parking space.

The "prima donna football player" never once made any reference to being an NFL player or tried to use that to get out of his ticket.

The guy has apologized and resigned from the force. The Dallas Chief of Police has said that the actions were embarrassing and unprofessional and has himself apologized.... Those closest to the case are all concluding that this officer was unprofessional and used extremely poor judgement.... SO WHY ARE YOU GUYS STILL TRYING TO DEFEND THIS PIECE OF SHIT?

I guess you just won't care until it happens to you or your family.
