It is breaking the law. But the cops' boss went on the air and said he expects his cops to use better discretion in that type of situation. Moats even said he'd be fine with a ticket, but at least wanted to be allowed to see his mother in law.

Seriously, what the hell is there to argue about? The Dallas department came out and admitted they were wrong. They basically praised Moats as being not the least bit in fault.

I can't believe that people are still posting saying that Moats should have handled this differently. Oh wait, yes I can.... people are idiots.

Of course he did, its good PR, but I just watched the vid from TTA's post and it definitely wasnt like he turned on a red to make it into the hospital parking lot. He was driving for a good half mile without letting the cop know what was going on. Hazards do not allow yo to get away with things. If I goto Woodward tonight and toss my hazards on, it doesnt give me the right to drag race.

Yeah, because you hear apologies like that all the time. Wait, no you don't, not unless there was a terrible mistake. He even said he couldn't say what he really felt about the cop's actions because it wouldn't be proper.

Nobody is saying Moats didn't break the law. And if he's a couple miles away, then yeah, you pull over. But the hospital was within his eyesight! The road was clear, he endangered no one. The cop was right to be wary at first, but it quickly became obvious that this wasn't a dude pulling a scam on him.

I also think the NFL guy was giving an attitude at the beginning and certialnly didn't help his case.
I think jumping out of a car when you're getting pulled over is an extraordinarily bad idea and the stop was destined to go downhill from there. (I did it once when I was about 17 and had two Detroit cops with guns pointed at my head yelling at me to get the fuck back in the car in miliseconds... so I'm sorta familiar with how much cops dislike people jumping out of cars at a stop) :laugh:

I think pulling the race card is BS and I also think that's why the national news picked it up and why the chief was so quick to throw the cop under the bus.

I just don't see Moats having a bad attitude. He had a frustrated attitude, and there is a huge difference.

And it's not like the woman flat out ignored him from the start; she tried to talk to him, and he wasn't having any of it. At that point she made the decision to ignore him and go see her dying mom.

I still don't see how they "played" the race card, and how them mentioning that the thought of racism playing a part crossed their mind is bullshit. Someone explain this to me.

that is not the time to try to 'talk' to the officer, like I said I found that out the hard way. (ps no ticket either. I got a warning to slow down)

This is the only quote I can find from them about race:
"The Moats family, who are black, said they can't help but think that race might have played a part in the white officer's behavior."

I would say that in a situation like this where you are treated like shit and the person treating you like shit is the opposite race, it's our nature to think that it "might" be playing a factor.

The way it's worded makes me think a journalist asked them if they thought it was a factor, and that was their response. I don't know that for a fact though. I just don't see it being "bullshit", I see it as being a very possible reality.

I called on a reckless driver not long ago ---- I got passed on a double yellow, in a school zone, in town...... I was going the speed limit, the grand prix behind me was on my ASS...then, decided to blow past me even with traffic coming in a double yellow... I love how you guys who are defending the officer are literally disagreeing with the chief of police who reviewed the tape personally.

This is what drives me nuts. The chief of police is a guy who obviously is hoping and wishing that his officer did the right thing, and even he knows that it was bullshit. He is also that guy that reviewed the tape that none of you get to see. And you STILL think there may be "another side to the story" or a good reason of this behavior. What a joke that is. You people are ignorant.

Or maybe you're ignorant for assuming the Chief of Police isn't trying to do damage control, is being political to achieve his own goals, or isn't like any other "CEO" who is oblivious to everyday operations like most people in charge are at most larger departments/companies. You say good cops are in the minority, and I say you're wrong. In case you didn't know, failing to pull over when a cop has his lights/sirens on attempting to pull you over is a felony, even if your mommy is sick. While I agree its a terrible situation, you are letting your hatred toward cops blind you from the facts that the driver was wrong in his actions.
