Title and scrapping car

I bought a turd a few years ago for parts. I'm gonna take it for scrap soon, does the title need to be in my name to turn it over for scrap? I'd prefer not to pay money to transfer title just to scrap it.

Some yards are much more strict than others.
The place I used in Adrian would accept any car
as long as I had a title for it, it didn’t have to be in my
name.

I had two cars that didn’t have titles (I knew they were both
Ok) So I cut the one up into pieces & when I brought it into
the scrap yard the guy there asked me if I cut it up because I
didn’t have the title & I said yes!

He told me “man, you don’t have to do that, just bring it in
whole next time” – and I did, with no problem.

my cousin owns a yard and says ...
As long as the title is signed by the name on the title it's fine

But with the price of scrap metal being so low you won't get much
And if it's really stripped some yards won't take it

This in conjunction with the following:

If all you are looking to do is unload the vehicle and not expecting nothing in return, your chances of a yard accepting the title with car as-is would be good. Just keep in mind, they will likely say no if it contains a fuel tank, full set of tires (rubber on wheels), mattress or couch stuffed in the shell, or intentionally loaded interior from missing garbage day(s).

Not the place I use, I can leave the wheels & tires on, I normally
poke a hole or two into the gas tank (but leave it in place) and I
always load up the vehicle with all the scrap junk I can find.

I have never had a problem & they have always paid some of the
highest scrap rates.

Ok, thanks guys. It's pretty parted out already. Minimal fuel if any in the tank. Does have 10holes on it, debating on keeping them to try and sell for someone who needs some roller tires. I think we usually take stuff to the place on Pennsylvania downriver. No mattress or any crap like that. Just a rotted out Rustang.

You'll be fine. I scrapped a Passat shell a few years ago with a title not in my name, but signed by the owner. It was a shell, no suspension, driveline, doors or decklid.

I called and the lady there said as long as it is signed by the name on the title they'll take it.
So I am all set. Thanks for the help!
