my daughter just bought a used 2005 merc mariner with awd and has 67K miles.the car is excellent cond and it has brand new michelin latitude touring tires and when i drove it,its noisy as hell on the left front and i think its tires beacause the noise changes on different pavement.these are supposed to be quiet tires.on the other hand can it be front wheel bearings?anybody have a guess?

i was going to put the spare on the left front which is where i think the problem is and try to move the wheel up and down and sideways to check for play and if theres no play i'll put the spare on and check it out.

A quick and easy way to check the wheel bearing is to lift the wheel off the ground with the vehicle in N, spin the tire and hold onto the spring. If the bearing is bad you will feel the spring vibrate.

turned out to be wheel bearing.even when off the grounf there was no movement up or down or side to side.its quiet now!!
