Tint Q/A

A friend of mine just got a ticket for having tint and she's saying it's a points ticket. I thought it was a fix-it ticket. I've luckily never been pulled over in my car with tint. Anyways, what's the scoop? I know tint is not legal, but what happens when you get a ticket?

It depends on how the officer wrote it... It can be either way.. She is going to have to call the statoin and ask them... Then she will know...

i've had more tint tickets then i can count with my fingers and toes...everything i drive is all tinted out, windshield and all (that's what really pisses the cops off)

generally tint tickets are "fix-it" tickets in which you remove the tint and go to a station and a cop signs it off, then you take the ticket to the courthouse and they process it and it's no points, no charge yada yada yada....

if the cop is a dick they can issue an Obstructed vision ticket if they so feel like it...i've had a few of these myself. i found the 2 point tickets are almost better lol...because i would just go to court and play "dumb" tell the attorney that "well the cop said if i took it off there was no problem,so i took it off for him and he said i just had to come here and it would be all clear" :dontknow: that worked for me :icon_mrgr

as the law goes, you can't have any adjacent windows to the driver tinted except for a 4" strip across the top of them to act as "sun visors"

i just got pulled over last week for my tinted windshield in my DD Ranger, i just ripped it off right in front of the cop and he started crack'n up and let me go.... we tint windows at my work, so it's not a huge deal for me really.....

what does the ticket say on it under remarks or what the ticket states?

Man........ in the downriver area....its 0 points......all you have to do is go down to the police station and tell an officer you took your tint off and they walk out and look at your car and take your ticket from ya and say have a nice day. The one time I got busted for it the cop didnt even walk up to me car....he walked to the end of the building and looked at my car which was parked about 75 yards from where we were standing and he just says "yup the tints off" takes my ticket and says have a nice day!

She said it was an Oakland Co. Sheriff. That's all I know right now. I sent her a link to this thread. Maybe she can answer the questions.

In the same boat as you Matt, but i do it in my trucks and not my race cars! Loud car and tints=MORE TICKETS THAN YOUR FINGERS AND TOES CAN COUNT!! Matt is right..depending on the ASSHOLE it could be a fix it ticket or obstruction of vision 2 pointer..

What exactly constitutes obstructed vision.

My windows are at 15% in the front and I can see just fine.

How can they prove obstructed vision?

dont need to any tint on frnt windows below 4 inches is illegal

I get that. But how can they ticket you for obstructed vision when there is a separate statute for tinted windows.

The car cite you for obstruted vision for a air freshner, its completely up to the officer, also tinted windows are probable cause to stop and search a vehicle people VS lee

I had a fix it ticket for tint years ago when i had my 88 Mustang. I took a buddies Mustang to the cop shop with my lic. plate on it and the cop came out, read the plate, didn't see any tint and wrote the ticket off.
