were you 180* off? both the intake and exhaust valves must be closed with piston at TDC... You could have been on an exhaust stroke. Us hillbillys just put a finger over the spark plug hole and let someone else crank until it blows your finger away and then you have #1 at TDC
did you use a timing light to set the timing? what was the degrees set at? did you do it with the vacuum line off of the distributor? why are you working on your own car?What?
