Time for New Calipers??

Well, I've had this squeaking coming from the brakes and I assumed it was either pads/rotors. I was due for new rotors anyways, so I just replaced them with some oem rotors and brake pads. But the squealing only happens when the brake pedal is not applied, when I push down the break the squealing stops, and the noise comes from the two rear wheels. So I'm thinking my two rear calipers are sticking, and it's time for a new pair, does this sound like answer to the problem? Any help would be great guys, and some links of caliper kits would be good too....
 
sounds like they may be getting hung up, mine did that and i took the caliper apart and realized the slider pins that the caliper move son were seized up solid....i had to heat it up witha torch froever then smash it with a hammer a couple times, then cleaned it up with a steel brush and lubed the hell out of it...no problems since.
 
my mechanic and I have lubed everything up, numerous times and the noise stops for a day, then comes back. And when it rains or i get a car wash, the noise stops for about a day, and then slowly comes back. I'm clueless guys, and it's really got me annoyed, any help would be greatly appreciated...

I think he is on the right track more likely than not just the hardware.
 
the rear calipers on these cars are retarded design in my own opinion...i will be uprgading to the 03 cobra setup int he rear next winter...
 
Sounds like the pad is sticking in the pad bracket.

the cobra calipers are the same, just different pads and brackets to fit the bigger rotors...

and mine do it too, are theyre brand new..
 
pull up the ebrake and drive a little and try to wear the pads in a little...i dont drive all over with it, just up and down the street maybe....it helped mine but im an idiot..

The 99-04 cobra rear calipers are the same as the GT/V6 calipers. They are just spaced further out to accomodate a larger and thicker rotor. The slide pins on these calipers are known to freeze and not allow the caliper to float. You will get one pad hanging up on the rotor, heating up and glazing. That is where the squeal comes from. As long as you make sure the pins are properly greased, there should be no issues with squeal.

Thanks, i never new the calipers were the exact same. and yeah it definatly sounds like a slider pin issue, i dont see how else it would have those symptoms.

Well, to be completely technical, the slide pins are where the caliper body mounts to the caliper bracket. They should be covered by a rubber boot. You should be able to slide the pins by hand. If you can't, pull the pins out of the caliper bracket (the rubber boots will stay in place) and grease the heck out of them with high temp caliper lube (the black stuff Murray's always trys to sell people when you buy new pads/rotors).
 
Squeaking is caused by the pads vibrating againts the rotor.... Did you lube, spray or shim the back of the pads before you installed them?

Well I went up to my mechanic buddy today and tried to figure out this noise. We put it on the lift and drove the car to hear the noise, and the noise stopped. But we realized that my rear wheels are able to move up and down. So i'm fearing that it's something in the rear end that is causing the wheels to bend in and the pads are hitting the rotors...Does this make any sense?? Anyone has any problem with this?

Bad bearings?
 
first question woudl be uhh what kind of car is this, second like sean mentioned did you check the pad seats for possible intentations that are causing the pad to hang up.. or even brake dust build up\rust. if you dont clean it off and just slap some lube on it it wont make it any better.
 
Yes, we think it's bad bearings from the rear end, does that make any sense?? How much work would you think it would cost to replace the bad bearings?
