Thoughts on diesel Jeep Liberty?

Should I get one? Low mile ones are going for $18k-20k. Near 30mpg sounds pretty good right now. It would replace my daily driver Sentra Spec-V and my Cherokee that I use to haul stuff around and off-road. Are the CRD's or Libbies in general prone to any problems?

I hear they have nothing but problems. My buddy is a truck manager for a dodge dealership, so i asked him about these when i thought about getting one. They are not that good on milegae as you would think, and they have ALOT of problems. The motor is the problem. The next generation is gonna be better.

Bummer. That looked like a good idea. My GF has a diesel Jetta and the thing is awesome on gas. We get 45-50 on the highway when we go on trips in it. Everytime we take it up North or something I think - why doesn't Detroit make a car like this? I was hoping the liberty might start the trend.

I don't know about reliability or real world mileage, but I hear that they're surprisingly good in bad weather/off road conditions.

just imagine how much better it would be with a module and injectors :D

the diesel Liberty has actually been around for a few years, just not something you see often. As far as Liberties go, my mom has one and I love the thing.

I just remembered that I read in an automotive rag (4wheel & off road maybe?) that when the CRD Liberties were still in production, they sold like hotcakes. Dealers couldn't keep them on the lots.

The diesel jettas are deffff badass

Where the fuck is Ford on this one????

Hello why dont we do a Diesel powered compact SUV!!!

Or even a sedan??

Chrysler (pre-DCX) had a diesel Dakota but didn't sell it in the US. For small cars, it is a no-brainer - Cobalt, Focus, etc. It blows my mind that they are leaving this product off the table. Half of GM's sales in Europe are diesel. Maybe with them starting to ship Opel's over here as Saturn's we might get a diesel Ion.

I thought there was a cheorkee diesel coming out soon???with better devlopoment???
Cherokee is the name of the Liberty overseas. They've had diesels forever there. The domestic Liberty only had the diesel in '05 and '06 but due to tightening emissions regulations for '07 they dropped it because they couldn't meet the standards with the current Benz engine.

I am pretty sure the 05-06 engine is VM Motori.
