Thinking about getting a Pug.

Yeah I know they are ugly, but that's kind of what I like about them. Plus one of the guys at work just had a litter.

I can't really have a large breed dog. I don't have the time for a bigger dog. At least with a smaller dog I can crate it and it's easier to find people to dog sit if I go out of town.

Anyone have one?

Problems?

Thoughts?

They can be pretty hyper. My Brother has one and it jumps around too much and is a little too excited for my taste. I like lazy dogs though.

Because of their stuby faces it gets kinda hard for them to breath in the summer time. They have some health probs. because of their face's...

Cool family dogs..YES..

Vett bills out the ass if they get sick...FUCK YEA

One of our good friends has two of them. They are known to have issues breathing and need to have a surgery done to their nostrils to correct this. I think they paid about $500 for the surgery.

it'll be cheaper if you just come out of the closet.

:)

at least get a JRT or something cool!

JRT are too fucking nutty.

Guy I work with has 2, He likes them, but I get grossed out when he talks about cleaning out thier Anal gland. :puke:

My wife wants one that's crossed with a beagle. They call them puggles (really). Apparently they're "the cutest ever".

I've got one. We had two bigger dogs (60-80lbs) when we got him and needed something small. He's a hyper little fucker, but he's pretty amusing. Can't go outside on 80+ days for more than 10-15 minutes. Snores like a bastard.

Don't buy designer dogs. They generally come from shitty breeding conditions and usually exacerbate genetic problems already present in the two breeds. Puggles are a perfect example of breeding for "Cute" and getting nasty ass health problems...

Pugs are very cool dogs. Lots of personality. But they want a lot of attention.

Health problems....Man. You have to clean their ears out all the time. And their eyes/face. They get bad hips. Vet bills can be pretty bad. Easy to get skin diseases too. You have to clean the anal glands or they'll stink.

Then they snore. And they're always sneezing.

Not really a hyper breed, and they don't bark much. They're perfectly happy just watching TV with you.

Inside every Pug is a fat dog trying to get out. They'll eat anything. Have to watch their diet/weight. A lot of them are allergic to certain dog foods and you might have to put them on carrot/potato diets.

They love people. They won't leave your side, and don't like being left alone. You have to keep them out of the heat as well.

Let me guess..........................your going to name it "Frank" as in the talking pug from Men in Black.......................

if the vet bills scare you, look into pet insurance....

my boy woodson got a cyst on his leg at 8 months that cost 700 bucks to get removed, then proceeded to chew through three layers of stitches(which cost a few hundred more)....the vet said that chances were since he already had one at such a young age he'd get more....so now we pay 17 bucks a month, and any surgery like that would be covered....he's almost 4 now and hasn't had any more problems, but it's nice to know that i won't have to drop a grand or more should he have a major health issue

his routine vet visits/meds are not covered, but there are different plans for different needs......

Trunk, You like to go Phesant/Grouse hunting right?

So how about getting a dog that will do that?

Have you seen my dog Calla? (short for Callaway corvettes)

Shes a pure breed Brittany, one of the best bird dogs, Very calm too.

Nicoles aunt and uncle (the ones that I told you lived a mile away from national trails) breed them. Infact They just got another Bitch to breed.

Isn't that every dog? That is why I don't have one. I guess I could get one and just let Nick watch it every now and then. I am sure he would clean its anal gland.

I don't want a hunting dog right now. I had an English Springer before. Great dogs, but she was nuts. She would jump the 6ft privacy fence. Follow me half way to school then go back home.

I really want another Lab, but I don't have the time for a big breed dog.

BTW I have decided against the Pug. I just don't see that being the dog for me.

Looking for a small to medium dog that doesn't shed too much and doesn't need a ton of room to run. Suggestions?
