Been out of this for so long,im kinda outdated like my cam is lol..Run down on my engine---->

SBF 331 Stroker..
First gen TrickFlow TW heads with 1.6 TRW Roller Rockers..
Old school E303 cam..
Edelbrock RPM AirGap intake
Holley 650DP

Im in the middle of doing a engine swap---> Taking the 331 out of my GT and putting it in a LX I just bought..While the engine is out on the stand,im thinking about doing a cam swap before dropping it in..What I want is a little more thump/chop and to open the heads up a little..

Would the TrickFlow stage 2 cam be a good upgrade? Not looking to do a custom cam because I already have alot going on and trying to stay with-in my budget..Not 100% set on this but if I have enough free money after the engine swap,I wanna change the cam, carb (to a 750DP) and maybe intake..Any thoughts on this?

My buddy ran the X in his 331 and it rocked. Made good power. Lidio was impressed with his combo. PM Foxrod331 (Scott) if you have any questions.

Sounds like you have a pretty good combo. Not sure I would mess with it too much but since you have it out here is my 2 cents (for what it is worth).

The E303 is a little small for a 331. But rather than replacing it, you might want to consider just changing the rockers to 1.7's. Going to 1.7 rockers on an E303 cam will bump your lift from 0.498 to 0.529. Just need to make sure you have enough valve to piston clearance. I know I may get a lot of people who disagree, but the E303 cam has been around since 85 for a good reason; it works pretty well.

As Black88coupe stated, the X303 might be a good option too. Compared to the E cam, the X303 cam will give you more lift (0.542 with 1.6 rocker) a little bit more duration, and a closer lobe separation (107° versus 110°). The engine will benefit from more lift and duration (as long as you have enough valve clearance). Lobe separation is really what you are looking for if a choppier idle is your main goal. A smooth idle is around 114°. And you know what the E cam sounds like at 110°. But keep in mind that the closer you go with lobe separation the higher you will have to run your idle and the higher your power band will be. Look at where the power falls off (on the cam card) and make sure you don't run out of engine balance before you top off in your power band.

A 750 double pump seems a little big for a small block. Unless you are running high compression (11:1 or more) I wouldn't bother swapping the carb. Maybe look at upping the jets if it seems like it can take more fuel.

I have a very similar combo with the stage 2 tfs cam and 750 demon carb. As for the cam it is a good cam especially for the street. Highly recommend that cam. As for the carb like someone else mentioned i have 11:1 compression so the 750 is a good carb for me. You may have to try a 700.
