Theft Problem

So heres the problem. I have a 99 lightning with a aftermarket viper alarm on it with automatic start. The auto start has never worked jus cranked but doesnt start. Within the last month i would go to start my truck and key it up and the theft light will be blinking which in return means i cant start my damn vehicle. Now it happens about every start up and i just have to keep keying it on until it it stays lit and goes away. Its really annoying and sucks real bad when im in the pits at the track and look like a jackass keying my truck on and off 100 time literally. Can anyone help me out with this because i have no idea what to look for.

Sounds to me that you do not have the bypass box with spare key in it so it can work with the factory alarm. But you never know chould just be a bad alarm or not installed the right way.Sorry i cant help with the jack a$$ part at the track. LOL

Try this, remove your key from your alarm pad and stick it in the ignition but don't turn the key at all. Step back and do a remote start. If the vehicle starts with no problem then your bypass module is either missing or positioned wrong. Your year truck has a pill type bypass instead of a kex in a box under the dash. Sometimes the pill moves far enough away to not complete the signal to the receiver on the ignition. If putting the key in the ignition doesn't work then you may have an issue with your key, the receiver on the ignition tumbler or a problem with the vehicle theft system. Does it only do this during a remote start or even when you start it with the key?

When i first got the truck the remote start never worked. Like you said only when u had the key in. But now sometimes it doesnt matter if the key is in or not my truck just wont start becasue as soon as i key on the theft light blinks which just allows u to crank but not start. Im about 99% sure its the PATS system. Where would the pill type bypass be located or even look like?

Do you have another key you can try or does it not start with either key. You might need to replace the PATS pickup coil located around the ignition cylinder.

The bypass looks like this:

The end with the pill on it should be attacher right next to the ignition cylinder as close to the PATS ring under the plastic cover.
