Theft light on a 2000 Expediton

My neighbor just bought this vehicle and sometimes it start, but when the theft light is on, it will not. It only came with the remotes for unlocking the doors. Sometimes it will start off of the relay. She also said that if you let it sit for 10 minutes it will reset itself or something.

Is something wrong with the alarm or should we try changing the relay.

Bad ignition switch?

I'd just take it to a dealer and pay them to diagnose it then fix it yourself.

Try a new key.

It ended up being a combination of a rotted cable, bad relay and starter.
