so i grew up in an italian family, and ate italian home cooked meals pretty much my whole life. if we ate out, i'd eat burgers and steaks. now that my wife's little sister is living with us, my wife has suddenly become domesticated! she never really cooked before (not that i cared), but now she's cooking up a storm. i've had pot roast, kielbasa and sauerkraut, and meatloaf all in the last week or so... for the first time in my life! (i'm 32) lol.

they both look at me like i'm from another planet when i tell them i've never had half the stuff she makes.

anywho... just thought i'd share the enjoyment. anyone else grow up in a similar way?

My dad's side of the family was italian so plenty of those dishes. And my mom's side had a lot of polish so there were a lot of those dishes too. Sounds like you led a sheltered eating life before. Although you would never know it by looking at ya....:D

Never had meatloaf? wow. That is cool you finally had it. Sounds gross, but is actually pretty good.

Have you ever had homemade biscuits and gravy?

i was actually world-class athelete in high school... back when all those carbs from lots of pasta did me good. funny thing about that... you stop exercising, and those carbs make me "pleasantly plump". :icon_mrgr

Yes, and yes.

My mom was also a specialty chef for a while over at Luciano's at 17 and Garfiled in Clinton Township. No one cooks like her.
