The UNDER 30 crowd

im jealous of that era... shit today pisses me off, no one my age appreciates hard work and seeing how easy they really have it. It's ridiculous that im one of the only kids among all my friends i had in high school who actually worked, saved up, bought my own car, and pay for gas and insurance on my own, i pay for my own phone bill and once i turn 19 and am no longer insured on my parents medical thats gunna be on me too. Theres days i wanna hit my friends cause they bitch and ask for gas money in the 2007 mustang there dad pays for. I'd kill to be born 30 years ago

me 2!!!

i will be 30 next year and the shit i have seen on boths sides has pist me off
and saddened me as well...

i fear for my son and if i have any other kids..May God help them.

im 23. born in 86. and i remember alot of the old things. we had an atari. i remember roller rinks. i remember being outside every second that i possibly could. i didnt want to be inside. we had video games, but we always got the "new" one like 2 years after it came out. and we almost never got new games for them. they rarely got used. i grew up out in the country, i remember exploring in the woods, we had to be miles from the house, and not ever getting nervous "whoa man! look what i found!" we found all kinds of stuff, old cars, old farm equipment etc..

then there was bikes. i remember begging my dad to build me a ramp for my bike because all the ones that me and my friends built would always fall apart and we would crash. haha. finally one day he broke down and did it. and we would pedal as fast as our legs could possibly take us and launch off that thing and so who culd go the highest/farthest. no helmets, not knee or elbow pads no wristguards. i drive through neighborhoods these days and the kids have full body armor to go outside and play (im not saying protecting your kids is stupid so to the people who make their kids do that dont get all pissed, all im sayin is things were waaaayyyy different back then)

i have had all kinds of people tell me i was born in the wrong era. because of my views on things, what i think is cool (automobile wise, etc) and the music i like. i agree with most everyone else in this thread. it would SUCK to be a kid (8-13ish) these days. only time you talk to you buddys is through the mic on your xbox live. screw that. go outside and get dirty.

My bedroom furniture (bought new) is older than you. I have a Mattel Intellivision that is 5 years older than you.

 hell ya! my grandfathers house is like that, its like walking in to a museum. but i dont blame him. he bought quality stuff, when quality stuff could still be had. so why get rid of it?

cartoons these days suck.

My buddy just put 10gigs of Looney Toons on my PS3, politically incorrect titles included : ) I have to use modern technology to get back what you whiners got for just turning on the TV

i missed my era in a lot of regards.

i for one think it was much easier to live and enjoy life back then.....matter of fact, thats all i hear from my parents, their neighbors, my neighbors, ect. People back then seemed to be A LOT friendlier to each other, god was still around, you didnt mess with others so much cause you would get an ass whooping unlike today where you will get "told" on, or "I'll call the cops". You actually had to stand up for yourself. Everything was more relaxed and seemed easier going for everyone. Now as far as the so called younger generation, I would agree that new technologies such as cell phones, better tv's, computers, internet, and video games have all made things easier. However adults are also using these things just as much as young kids today are. I guess the con's of today's generation would be that yes, they do seem lazier, a lot more people do have things handed to them, appreciation for others property as well as their own has seemed to vanish, i think someone in here mentioned a lot of them are real whiny pussies, we seem to offend everyone else just by introducing ourselves, and the biggest of all is that none of them seem to want to stand up for our nation, our military, for what america is about!!! They are to afraid they will hurt someones feelings or be politically correct. Fuck that.

Nearly everybody I see on a bicycle wears a helmet. When I was a kid, wearing a helmet on a bike was grounds for an ass beating. I miss the good cartoons, Looney Tunes, GI Joe, Transformers, MASK...that was all good shit. I feel kids today are too sheltered, and when something serious happens, they dont know how to handle it. My mom left me home alone at 7 years old...these days its common for a 13 or 14 year old to have a babysitter.

Seriously, WTF? Those were good?

Looney Tunes, yes. Tom & Jerry, Heckle & Jeckle, Scooby Doo, Kimba the White Lion, Speed Racer, Johnny Quest, Hong Kong Phooey, Fat Albert, Top Cat, The Pink Panther, The Wacky Racers just to name a few, those were cartoons.

What about the Jetson, and my boy Elroy? And his favorite dog Rastro? Where would this world be without the great Kazoo?

Not just good, but fucking awesome! The Transformers Movie from 1986 is probably the best cartoon -> movie flick of all time. The Transformers movies made within the last couple years dont even deserve to be called Transformers. Once again, Hollywood butchered something that shouldnt have been touched in the first place. If anything, they should have adapted the original movie to live action. Shit, I still watch it a few times a year. Its good no matter how much you watch it.

And this is why we make fun of the younger generation...:spank:

 I understand where youre coming from. Sometime in the future, a similar thread will pop up, and we'll wonder "what the hell were those kids thinking?" as they talk about how bad ass Teletubbies were.

A few of the guys on MISpeed mentioned one time that 1989 was the greatest year in music...WTF?

Pick a year from 1964-1970, and just like the cars, the music was so much better than before or since. I grew up in the '70's, graduated in the '80's and still haven't heard the type of music (quality wise) that existed then. Hell, some of the bands and solo acts are still going (gray hair and all). Bring the Stones or the Who out for a tour and the stadiums would be packed.

im 24 and ALMOST all of that is true to me except microwaves and remotes. but i do remember waking up early for cartoons and i just had this convo with a buddy about remembering when we got a computer lab and not teachers had computers in the room. and yes i do remember using a card cat. in the library...:893Jedi:

I definitely agree with you there. Newer music flat out sucks. Most of my music collection is stuff from the 60s and 70s, although there are a few diamonds in the rough from the 80s onward.

Speaking of music, most of the Classical music that I learned about came from Looney Tunes. :)

Classical music is good shit...but iPods and all the other consumer junk out there today destroy it. A turntable or good CD player, tube amp, and some high efficiency horn speakers make classical music sound god like. Hell, they make any well recorded music sound crazy good.

cream, yardbirds, anyone? the who and stones are over-rated, imo. early 80's hair metal is pretty entertaining too.
