the new iPhone

At my current data price (30 dollars) was is the data options.

My family has a family plan through ATT, and it's been the same plan since 3.5 years ago, when the 3gs came out. All of my family members have upgraded their phones since, and it has not affected the unlimited data plan we're all on. I pay $30/month on my 3gs. I'm going to upgrade, despite my utter frustration at the new phone. I really, really don't like that it has the flat bottom. I skipped the 4, the 4s, and I'd love to just skip this one, but my old 3gs is getting tired. I don't know if I have the patience to even try to run IOS6 on it. It's quite slow as it is. Anyhow, my point is that I don't believe that you have to change anything about your contract, you're simply renewing the old one.

That's probably like every other factory in China. If those were made in the US the phone would cost $7000. We must not continue to overlay what goes on in our country to other countries. They're like that for a reason, and it's not our place to change it. We should have learned this by now.

I know...just fueling the Apple-slappy fire ;) :D

I'm pretty sure he is referrencing Verizon and how they no longer offer an unlimited plan. If you upgrade your phone you HAVE to get rid of the unlimited data.

Wrong. You do NOT have to get rid of the unlimited data. You just have to pay a $30 upgrade fee.

I'm sort of skeptical about Near Field Communications...just feel like it'd be very easy for a skilled hacker to develop some way to rob people blind. How are they going to keep that secure?

No, you are wrong. The only way you can keep your unlimited data plan is to buy a device at full price. If you buy a device and pay 'new contract' pricing, you HAVE to change to a limited plan.

The last device that Verizon allowed unlimited data to be had on with a subsidy was the Galaxy S3, but ONLY if you pre-ordered it. If you bought it after the release date of July 10th (if I remember the date correctly) you had to change data plans.

Sorry, when I just got my Droid Razr .... 4 months ago... I got it for FREE and didn't have to give up my unlimited data plan.

The only thing so far that's impressed me is the integration of Waze into the Map application. Probaby because I use Waze and it would be nice not to have to have that app installed and just be able to use the current map application. Though they didn't indicate wether you can update traffice using their app or if it just pulls from users who are using the Waze app. If it's the former, that's going to hurt the reliability and overall usefullness of the data.

Nothing overwhelming to date. They really needed to up the screen size and put more information on their display. It looks a bit goofy being tall and slender, when almost every other phone on the market is wider.

It makes you wonder how much longer they'll continue to have the huge bezel on top and bottom and slim down the phone even more.

Preorder starts Sept 15th.

The iOS6 will bog down youre current phone so bad, you'll have to buy the iPhone 5

seems like they basically took all of the popular apps and either straight up ripped them off or integrated them directly into their own software. The iPhone portion of the announcement is done. On to iPods.

So to recap.
Whole device is made out of glass and aluminum.
bigger screen - 4 inches
Smaller device - lighter and thickness
Faster Processor - Opens apps quicker and smaller processor
Longer Battery Life - 8 hours on LTE, 10 on WiFi
FaceTime over Cellular - ATT will charge extra for this feature and since Verizon no longer offers unlimited data unless you buy the device at full price, they essentially charge extra as well if you use it regularly
Maps - 3d maps that you can fly in. Integration of Waze data (addressed by me above). Implements Tom Tom for it's GPS. Never used Tom Tom, so can't say much other than that.
Camera - If you use Instagram, congrats, Apple just make their own version of it. If you don't, there's not much here that's an improvement with the exception of panoramic pictures.
Wifi - Ultra Fast WiFi. *personal note, I swear to God I'm going to shoot the first person who uses this term and actually tries to sound intelligent. "N" networks have been around for quite a while. They are not ultra fast. 95% of the US doesn't even run speeds that would require "N" networks in their house.*
New connector. Adapter available (kind of looks bulky from the picture)
extra mic. 3rd mic built in to make it so the phone can hear you better. A feature I wish my S3 had.
Facebook Integration

Apple store is down ;) for maintenance. I'll be pre ordering mine on Friday :). And posting my iPhone 4 on eBay. Just sold my old 3G for $110. Gotta love the resale value of these products

Oh and looking forward to Surfing the web on the ultrafast wireless network ;) (that's for Ryan)

i wonder if youll be able to use the speakerphone finally, or if it will be too quiet, like every other iphone

I'm way past "N" networks. I'm running "S" right now. It's basically SUper-Duper mega-ultra-powerful-fast speeds. Take that.

In other words, only the LTE capability makes it a worthwhile upgrade over the 4S.
