The New Challenger

I just recieved a couple of my car "rag-mags" this week and they had stories on the new Challenger. I knew the Challenger would be a big car but I didn't realize how big it be. That say the car will be over 197 inches and around 4150 pds. This puts it three inches shorter than a Charger and right about the same weight as the SRT-8 Charger. This should cut down on how nimble it will be. The mags put it around 5 seconds for 0 to 60 and the quarter mile in the mid to high 13's. This is with 6.1 liter hemi. I not too impressed with these numbers. Can't wait to see how the Camaro compares with it.

I'm pretty dissappointed with the weight as well. It's shorter and narrower than the other cars it shares a platform with, but it weighs the same. The mustangs weigh in at over 4k too now don't they? It should be low 13s/high 12s like the other srt8s, but I was hoping for a little more. The timing is definetely bad for an overweight car that gets mid to low teens mpg.

Mustang GT's weigh in around 3600pds. The GT500 is around 4000pds. Also the Stang is about 8 inches shorter.

Seen one with m plates rollin north on 75@ crooks the other day on my way to work...
I wanted to mess with it, but i guess 640am on 75 might not be the best place...
IMO it looked really plain...
I'm thinkin Camaro FTW :)

Not a big fan of the rear, sounds like a pig too. I doubt if it will get in the 12's.

the 300srt8s were 4200lbs and there were of few of them in the 12s.

I think the looks are fine, I like them a lot. It just would be nice to see a hemi in something that weighs less than 2 tons.

A vert GT500 weighs in at around 4100 lbs. The new challengers are :puke: The trunk is huge and it's just ugly. :shake:

your nuts dude, that Challenger is pure sex. It makes the Mustang look like crap, and makes the Camaro look like something out of Madmax. I seen a silver one rolling around on Adams and M59 yesterday. I dont care of much it weighs, most people dont either, they care about looks and price. The Challenger is just fucking bad ass. When the manual comes out, it will be even sweeter.

some chrysler engineers come into my work and have brought a challenger or 2.. you can feel the weight when you beat on them.. but its not horrible.. i love the interior... the rear end is kinda boring.. its like the designer just gave up at that point:)

i would like the drivetrain from the camaro in the challenger... that new camaro looks horrendous to me.. but to each their own:)

This whole "size and weight" thing bothers me too. Why so big and heavy. Power to weight is were it's at. The Corvette has that figured out. The Challenger is 4140 lbs and a Z06 is 3132 lbs. ONE THOUSAND POUND DIFFERENCE! I know it's comparing apples to Candy apples but still! A standard Vette is 3217 lbs and you can buy a stripped down version new for the low 40K's right now!
Not that I'm looking or anything. lol

You guys are harsh...Ya, they are a bit porky but that can be fixed. The factory race cars are almost 1000lbs lighter..
That 4100 is also a loaded to the titties SRT. A base interior 380HP/404TQ M6 car will probably be lighter..and quicker than an auto SRT car.
With Intake ,exhaust and programmer there are Chargers and 300 SRT's in the 12.50 range.
Put a 6-speed into the equation and it gets better...
They will be fast.

saw one this morning on m59. all black, with black wheels. looked sharp, but could see too much with the shitty road conditions.

the challenger looks good and who cares if all the new "muscle" cars coming out arent that fast because they weigh more than an 80's cadillac, most of the buyers are gonna be old fat men that will just putz around in them on weekends

Uh you guys been inside these, the interiors are a complete SHITBOMB, jump in any charger, or 300 and you got the same boring ass dash to the tee, I would never buy it for that reason alone, and I actually did like the exterior, guess thats what happens when you choose to come to market quicker then the competition and your interior guys are asleep.
