The ask Tin about audio thread

Sweet. Thanks for the Akai link. The thing last worked sometime in '80 when I accidentally knocked it over. Mom was pissed. This should be fun trying to revive her old, no vintage, audio equipment.

Open reel tape sounds crazy good. Seriously, you cant find that kind of sound quality unless you spend big money on a turntable and standalone phono preamp. The higher the IPS (inches per second), the better the sound. The only drawback to open reel tape is the work involved in playing the tape itself. It would also be a good idea to have the tape heads cleaned and degaussed.

You obviously know I'll be down for some speaker wire... Kyle has a nice pair of energys that I could have him bring over for more testing.

I will obviously pay for the stuff, its the 100 hours a week of work I cant get around, lol.

I can't wait to get more info on Bob's cool new speaker cables. Have to give them a cool name like Bob's Audio Bandings or Acoustic Cords.

off topic

Marc, I might have sent a new customer to you. A good friend of mine who was concerned that the underside of his car was as dirty as it was. 2009 911

Just found this picture. The RE30's are hooked up upstairs right now.

Ive never heard any of the newer AR speakers. I know their old stuff (50s/60s) is highly regarded, and there are fans of the newer speakers. The best thing I can say is listen for yourself. If they make you smile haul em home :).

My current setup in the basement. Cerwin Vega 380se's for music and a 5.1 Polk setup for movies. Running a Paradigm ps-1000 for my subwoofer. I also have two sets of Magnepans but not quite sure where to put them. Made a retro video game station. Each bin has a different system/cables/controllers in it (NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, PSOne, and Xbox).

Maggies are fantastic! I cant believe youre running those CVs in place of them :shake:. Id run those Maggies with a pair of Eminence Alpha 15As in open-baffle H-frames. Youll get a nice, smooth, punchy di-pole bass to go along with the di-pole nature of the Maggies. The best part is, those Eminence woofers are cheap, and they go clear down to 28Hz -3dB in those H-frames. Most consumer grade subs dont even go that low. Maggies have a very pleasing, distinct sound. CVs are brute force, Maggies are finesse. Finesse always sounds better, because its distortion free and more details come through ;)
