Why the fuck do I need "more" insurance when the insurance I have now I barely use?!?!?!?! Explain that bullshit to me...
I went to my doctor last night for a check up and I asked him to tell me what he thought, with out worrying about offending me.
Me made two points:
1. This is wealth redistribution, plain and simple. Not just from the wealthy, to the lower class, but from the middle class to the lower class also.
2. He said the system hinges on young, healthy people paying their fair share, which he think won't happen. He expects most young healthy people to just opt out and pay the tax.
You think the tax is only $95!?!?!?!?It's like $95 or something.
You think the tax is only $95!?!?!?!?
:bowrofl:
My current insurance is good. I work for the largest health system in the state of Georgia. I currently pay for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Short Term Disability 463/month. That's for a family of up to 7 people. I have no deductible as long as I'm in network and my prescriptions are amazingly cheap if I use a pharmacy in our hospital system. For instance Steph's migraine medicine at a CVS is $150/refill. At our hospital pharmacy, it's $39. If I'm in network, I have a flat copay fee ($35/$45)
Under the new rules based on Obamacare (which we were promised lower Premiums) my insurance is dramatically changing. The same level of coverage will now cost me $428/month. A savings of $35/month or $420/year. My deductible is now $2500/year. On top of that I have to pay 20% once insurance starts to kick in. While I don't the specifics yet, we've been told that our prescription benefits are now being dramatically scaled back. What that means I don't know, but scaled back does not imply "Ryan saves money". What does all this mean? My true cost of insurance is now going to be $628/month plus %20 cost of a visit.
I went online to see if self provided healthcare would fare better. It's not. BCBS is the closest I could find. Cost would be $868/month with a $12,600 deductible. That's INSANE!. I tried to see what buying on the exchange would cost me, but the site is down. I'm not holding my breath that it'll be a shocking low number. I'd like to thank all the morons who pushed for this and voted for these morons in office.
As much as I HATE Obamacare, it seems as if you're employer is screwing you over, and they can now that they have an excuse(Obamacare).
To compare, I pay $200/mo pre-tax($99/check) for my family. The deductible is $500, but after that, 100% is covered. Rx's are $10 and Dr visits are $25 in-network and $50 for specialists. In fact our co-monthly payment used to be $120/mo, but because of Obamacare the cost went down to $99/check. Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with this change, but I'd rather pay $120/mo and have no obamacare because I know the concequences of it.
Your employer is screwing you, that's my opinion.
How the ObamaCare Tax Penalty Works
Your tax penalty (shared responsibility fee) for not having insurance is paid on your taxes at the end of the year. If your taxable income is below 133% of the FPL you are exempt from this tax.
2014 = $95 per person per year or 1% of your Income
2015 = $325 per person per year or 2% of your Income
2016 = $695 per person per year or 2.5% of your Income
2017 = Tax Penalty will increase by the rate of inflation going forward, or 2.5% of your Income
What do you think it's going to be?
Depending on your companies open enrollment, yours will change too. My insurance is now a collaborative with another large health system in Georgia to mitigate costs. I don't doubt they are screwing me, but no company is 'not' screwing their employees over on this stuff.
We have enrollment every year, and this was the affect of Obamacare on our insurance...so it already changed.
Depending on the time of your open enrollment, it may not take affect until 2014 year. The bulk of the law doesn't go into affect until next year. There are mandated changes that will affect your insurance unless your insurance already complied with every mandate prior to the laws inception, which is almost certainly an impossibility.
These are the changes for next year...this whole year we were on the other plan. Our insurance isn't going to change again until 2015.
