the 5.4s

Looking at getting a 04 expedition. It has the 5.4 in it. Arnt they just a 4.6l with bigger heads?

Are they Junk? Any common issues with them? It has 111,000 on it now.

I have owned all 4.6l cars. Never had an issue with them well into the 200k. Isn't a 5.4 the same as a 4.6 just different heads or taller deck?

Nope, a 4.6l with bigger heads is still a 4.6l

the 5.4l is a stroked 4.6l with a taller deck. both have 3.55" piston bore

They arent junk, but they have their issues, mainly spark plug threads, and exhaust manifold studs rusting out. Not uncommon for them to go 250k miles though with proper upkeep. the 2V is kind of a dog though vs the 3V version

Did someone say cam phasers already? No... I'll go ahead and say it then. When you do cam phasers you might as well do chaines, tensioners, guides and cam followers. Can get pretty pricey, but I have 100K on my 5.4 right now and I love it.

3 valve was 2004 and up on expeditions, just like F150's. Only vehicle was the mustang which was still 2V and 4 V.

I just got off the phone with my uncle. He owned a 05 that had 4 cylinders seize up on him at 120K. His father (my gpa) also has the same year and his and his only has 80K on it and 2 cylinders just seized up on that. Along with I have been reading that they have really bad spark plug blow outs and manafold leaks.

Maybee they just got two lemons?

Damn, I played hockey with a guy who had one cylinder seize up and it ripped the wrist pin out of the bottom of the piston but it kept running. Also had a rocker break off too.
