The 2011-2012 Michigan B-Ball thread (no Fartans allowed)

I never said that. Reread Ryan's post. He was saying the best South East Michigan would be Champs and at worst, Tri-Champions. This was wrong. By the way, 2010 was a two way tie in football.

Whats with the South East Michigan thing? I understand its an attempted slander, but doesn't appear to be rooted in anything beyond identifying the location of the campus.

Also, I hope no one missed the humor of your inability to spell your congratulations to MSU on being B1G champs correctly.

You do realize that if you lose at OSU on Sunday and Michigan wins against Penn State, that Michigan is the Big Ten champs. right?

Trichampions with OSU and MSU. I still think MSU will beat OSU. All three teams would be 13-5. All three teams would be 1-1 against the other two. And if your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle...

So what you're saying is you were wrong. Ok. Now that we have that clear (though no one really doubted that before).

Like this year in football...enjoy it...it will be your last.

No, they aren't champs yet. They at best can be champs, at worst, share a 1/3 of a championship with OSU and UM.

Oh, I see. You were trying to say MSU isn't the Champ yet. The problem is, they are Champs. And losing to Ohio State doesn't stop the banner from being raised. Too bad, so sad. You're still wrong.

Jim, you're looking at the year like Ryan. If MSU wins and OSU finishes in 3rd place. It's still not a 'bad' year if they do well in the group of 68. I still think MSU and OSU are the only two B1G teams with a chance for a National Championship or Final Four. A B1G Championship or a Final Four? Give me a Final Four.

Congratulations to Ohio State and South East Michigan for joining Michigan State as 2012 Big Ten Tri-Champions. First conference championship for South East Michigan since 1986...

In a minor way, I'm glad MSU lost. When you bring a long winning steak into the Tourney, I think you're due for a loss. I doubt Kentucky wins the NCAA Tourney because of this...

I said in a minor way. Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to win and keep South East Michigan from any form of a champinship. It didn't happen. We're still hanging a banner next November. I would have rather seen them lose a game in the conference championship. Even Kentucky didn't win them all. I've said this thru the whole season, the REAL season doesn't start until a week from Thursday. I don't care if they win a conference championship. I don't care if the win the conference tourney. I'd rather be the only team that doesn't end the season on a losing streak. It's the last 6 games that count.

So much for those dreams.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...-state-spartans-branden-dawson-tears-acl-year

Michigan State's national title hopes took a hit Sunday when the Spartans announced that starting freshman forward Branden Dawson tore his left ACL and is done for the season.
Dawson played seven minutes, scoring four points and making two field goals and grabbing two steals in the last second 72-70 home loss to Ohio State on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Michigan State (24-7), which tied Ohio State and Michigan with 13-5 records atop the Big Ten, will be the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament next week in Indianapolis and was in contention for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament before the loss to the Buckeyes.
Now, the Spartans are likely a No. 2 after North Carolina beat Duke in Durham on Saturday night to win the ACC regular-season title.
Dawson averaged 21.1 minutes a game, 8.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and was a key member of the frontcourt rotation with senior starter Draymond Green, Adreian Payne and Derrick Nix.

So much for those dreams.

We'll see next week. Give Izzo enough time and he can game plan for anything. I won't say it's an insignificant loss, but Green, Appling and Wood are the most important players that wood cause a real problem. The Spartans go 8-10 deep. They'll plug someone else in.

So giving up a 15 point lead at home to lose the Championship is somehow better??

If we end up in the Final Four, absolutely. I'm not going to minimize the loss of Dawson. It was big. It could be argued that it cost MSU the game as he was the guy guarding Buford (23 points in the second half). But the Spartans lost Korie Lucious in 2010 and still ended up in the Final Four. Now you see who steps up. It'll be interesting to see how MSU comes out vs the Iowa/Illinois winner next Friday. Losing Dawson is bigger than losing to OSU. MSU has two weeks to figure it out.

Look, I like seeing all kinds of banners being hung at Breslin. But at the same time, if I have a choice between a conference championship or tourney championship and a Final Four, give me the Final Four.
