The 2011-2012 Michigan B-Ball thread (no Fartans allowed)

Great game. I'm in Costa rica and the bar us full of Michigan fans. Yes, I'm bragging about being in Costa rica too.

Which when you consider the fact that they play each other more than once a season, it makes it stand out more. Nothing wrong with winning year after year in Football, but when you only play once a season, it doesn't really look as impressive as winning more than once a year.

That was an exciting finish. Good to see some quality basketball out of both teams. Michigan actually played some defense too. I have a feeling they both will have nice runs in the tourney, especially MSU with their big guys. Michigan is still a little too reliant on their perimeter game.

Tell that to Glen Rice ;)

Big Ten Basketball Scheduling

How does it work? I assumed everyone played everyone twice. I wanted to see more of my teams lose in Ann Arbor, but it looks like I've been spared from watching that because it doesn't happen. And Nebraska and Michigan are in the same football division, so that clearly has nothing to do with the scheduling, so how do they decide who you play twice and who you don't?

If they played everyone twice, they would play 22 games. They'e keep the same 18 game schedule from when they had 10 teams. Ever since Penn State joined the schedule has allowed for playing a team only once. The football divisions only matter to football.

As your team gets better, you'll realize this is the exhibition season. Even winning the Big 10 Tournement is just fluff. The real season is in March and April. I hate to sound like a Yankee fan, but anything less than a Final 4 is a complete disappointment.

You're effin ridiculous! The Big 10 is probably the toughest conference in the country, finishing first in the conference would be stellar.

And what does it get you? You may be #2 in the tournement, or you may even be #4 or #5. MSU has been bounced the second or third game in the B1G tourney, and then made the Final 4. You can win the Tourney and get bounced before getting to the Sweet 16. I just look at the B1G Tourney as a preview of the NCAA Tourney. I'd rather have a Final 4 banner vs a B1G banner. Don't get me wrong, you never want to lose (the loss to the Illini was UGLY), but Izzo builds his team for the NCAA Tourney. This is why MSU's early schedule is loaded with Duke, North Carolina, Texas, Kansas and other Top 10 teams.

Michigan is getting better. They are competitive. They need to set their sites higher than winning a B1G title or Tourney.
