Dad had an axle bearing go bad on his Satellite. Originally thought it was a bearing in the diff but it's hard to tell when you're using the pry bar stethoscope on a stick axle that just rings any vibration through the whole thing.

John had a diff he was going to give dad. Went and picked it up Saturday night but while we were picking it up my sister called to tell us dad found the bad axle bearing and the diff was ok. We tried as hard as we could to get the needed axle bearing yesterday but it isn't a factory bearing because the Wilwood brake kit doesn't work with the factory set up. I guess the green bearing is a reasonably common after market bearing for the Chrysler 8 3/4 but not something you can just get from O'Reilly's. We didn't find a bearing yesterday but John called a guy from Jake's Automotive in Sterling Heights. They had one and opened at 7:30 this morning. An hour and a half earlier than the other option for getting one from Mancini. Just finding out they had it at a time they weren't open was huge because it helped dad beat traffic this morning to go get it. I think Jake's pressed the new bearing on too but not sure.

He's got the car back together now and is working on getting it out of the old garage to get on the road.

Thanks to anyone else that saw the Facebook post and tried contacting any old Mopar guys to try to help locate a bearing. Jsxtreme, ltl homer, Danny Dodge and whomever else might have put some feelers out to see if someone had something laying around.

Side note. Anyone in the Canton area travel to the Troy area much? I need a ride to my old house in Clawson at some point in the next few days. Dad left before my mom/sister/niece were ready this morning so my daily driver is stranded at my old house and I could use a ride to get to it if anyone heads that way in the morning or evening.

I live in Troy and work in Novi with Justin (JSextreme). I leave the office around 3ish and can drop you off if you can get to my work...

No problem Brad, hope he gets back on the road soon.

Oh, and I'm charging you (or someone) by the hour for that rear end pumpkin........

Gary, thanks for the offer. I would need a ride from Canton to Clawson though and timing needs to kind of be morning on the way to work kind of thing or evening after I've driven back to Canton from work.

Dennis, live in Westland and work in Rochester Hills I think we might be able to work with if I could get a ride some morning, maybe? I will have to talk to the wife about dropping the kid off at day care to do it on a morning. I'll see what her schedule is like and let you know what we could possibly work out for that.

I was informed Summit is open until 9 on Sundays. So we could have technically gotten it fixed yesterday but leaving for Akron at 3 in the afternoon didn't really seem like a good time.

Someone tagged me on FB for this bearing... I think it was for the same vehicle (blue) .... I had planned on working yesterday but a visiting migraine had other plans for me. I may have one of these on the shelf... But
I wanted to comment on the "Green" ball bearing company in Ohio replacement bearings for Mopars but never got around to it.
They are Junk.
I lost a few axle shafts in customers cars (causing extensive damage((could have killed someone))) that I had to pay for.... multiple back to back failures... the folks at Green (I spoke to the owner) said we don't have any problems at all with our bearings (hes full of shit) I would not install one in my most hated neighbors lawn mower.
They are a very common bearing for most aftermarket axle shafts..... they are simple to install and do not require a inner seal..... they work great in cars that don't get driven.
Tell your dad when he gets back home to consider changing them back to the original set 9 timkens tapered bearings and required factory adjusters.
This requires a spacer on the cross pin in the third member (it may or may not be removed).
Have him call my shop and I can walk him through the procedure. Its a bit of a pain in the ass, but speaking strictly form direct experience of multiple "Green" ball bearing failures and switching back to tapered roller bearings and watching my customer get 150K with no failures ....there is no question on what I would do....

Whatever you need Brad, just let me know. I start at 7am, but have some flexibility. I get off at 330pm, but again, have some flexibility. Or I could just drive you there one evening. Just let me know.

I read there are a couple different types of them when I was looking into it a bit. The older style is junk but the newer ones are ok?

It is my understanding that the Wilwood brake kit requires use of the Green Bearing. Dad said he had the ends of the axle ground down to remove the pre load the factory bearings require too so seems like he'd also need new axles to go back to the factory set up. But like I said, I think his rear brakes kit required use of Green Bearings.

MO-400 vs RP-400, this is what I had read on the old and new thing.

Apparently the one that failed and was replaced here was the second gen one and the one that he got to replace it here is the original green bearing and is already making noise. 800 miles out of the first gen and 30,000 out of the 2nd gen. 2nd gen still sucks but that's a lot better than the original still.

No problem, wish I could have found one for you sooner. Glad to hear you got it worked out.

I live in Novi, work in Farmington Hills if you still need a lift. I can come get you early one morning.

Clawson is a long ways out of your way from Farmington Hills fighting traffic in the morning. I think I'm working from home one day this week and have a friend that works in Westland and lives in Madison Heights that could give me a ride home after work that day. I think that is my best get the BMW home plan right now.
