TH400 or 200r4?

Have a choice of swapping transmissions.

Wondering what the pros and cons of each of these would be for a low 11 high 10 second GN would be. The rear is a Dana 60 w/ 3:55 gears. Both would have an electric trans brake and the 200r4 would be built strong enough, but at a cost of around 2K and be non-lockup style.

The car is mostly driven locally but maybe once a month hits the highway.

Should I just go with the TH400 and not worry about OD? Redline is around 6K

Currently I have a ProBuilt 700r4 w/ a 10.5" 3500 stall converter. Probably go to a 9" with the new trans.

if you can a reliable 2004r for the application the overdrive sure won't hurt anything.

For sure. The only thing I am second guessing is the price difference between the 2. How much is a TH400 w/ an electric trans brake? You can get them for a lot cheaper then 2K correct?

There was just a write up in Car Craft a few months back about Art Carr and his 200-4r's and how much power they'll hold with his upgrades. HAd to do with new output shafts and improved pump vanes or somethign like that.

its a whole bevy of heat treating, wedling, new parts, pressure control, bringing down converter weight valve body calibration and shift quality. 2004r can live its just a balancing act. some builders are better at it then others.

I bought a 400t with a brake for $975 @ "Brand X" in Warren
a few years ago and used it for a couple seasons with no troubles.
Business name edited out of respect for sponsors.

I opted for the 2004R. I also bought a TH400, cause if this 200 goes again, Im not going to hesitate puttin in a 400. I love having the OD, really cant go wrong either way. You can do freeways, just not 80-90 mph. More like @ 65 or so

What gear do you run in your ttype?

Have you tried talking to rossler ? you can get a 4l60e transbrake from them and its possiable they may have one for the 700r4.

Who is we?

The guy that did mikeg's trans was talking with a few of us when we dropped the trans off. He stripped it and inspected it while we were standing there bullshitting with him. Mike hasnt ran the car with the new setup so he cant say for sure. If you want to discuss what was said shoot mike a pm. He can also get you in touch with the guy that did his. The guy is a street racer from waaay back and had a gn when they were new. He tried a ton of shit and knows what works and what doesnt. I wouldnt feel confortable putting his name out here and all, but he is pretty well known from street racing back in the day.

my ss with a 3:73, and th400 did horrible on the highway, od will save you wear and tear, def gonna keep the egrs up being your turboed.

you can look into a hoan "sp" over drive setup for the th400, personally i have seen alot of th400 take well over 1000 hp and live to shift again.

Go with a 200r4. Mine makes more power than yours and I have a T-brake. Been in the car for 6 years without an issue. Forward drum, wide band, servo,Trans-go shift kit and good clutches. Not to say it will live forever, but with a street car Od is a must for me.
