TH400 issue with tailshaft.

Heres the deal.

I had 2 buddies over helping put in a motor, trans,etc in my 91 Camaro.

In the process of bolting the torque arm to the tailshaft of the trans, my one buddy took my impact and zapped the damn bolt in. Causing the bolt the strip some threads which I can fix, but broke a corner off of the tailshaft housing that the bolt goes thru. Now it leaks since that piece is missing and part of the gasket is exposed.

Can I just replace that part of the tail? Or am i going to be digging deep in my pockets?

I can't quite tell, but if it is just the tailshaft housing, yes, you can just replace the tailshaft/extension housing

The second pic is me taking the pic thru part of the Trans Crossmember. The bracket to the left that the bolt goes thru into the tail is part of the torque arm bracket.


The first pic is me upside down.
 
You can take the tailshaft housing off and have it repaired or get another tailshaft housing. Most likely cheaper to relace the tialshaft housing.
 
Im confused by the pictures too. A th400 has the speedo housing in the case, not the tail housing, so Im not so sure what Im looking at? If thats the case thats cracked, you most likely clean & use jb weld it.
Can you back up a little with the picture?
 
It is the case that this part is broken off. Thats the best I can do unless I really throw the car in the air. I tried to use JB weld and it didnt hold.

Could I posible have the piece welded back on? I know a good aluminum welder, its just the size of the piece. It is about the size of a dime.

I have an amazing aluminum tig welder and he cant stand welding transmission cases because the trans case is cast aluminum and it pops and spits like crazy. Its somewhat comparable to pot metal. I had some shit welded on my trans and it never fucking worked. Thats my and his life experience anyways.
