Teaching my son to weld

How old is he? My fiance has two nephews who come over, one of them is a couch potato, the other one LOVES hanging out in the garage with me. I was going to show him how to weld, but I think he's only 8. Maybe 7. Probably too young still. And +1 for teaching your son!!
 
Chris that's cool I did the same for my daughter Candace.
Also was pretty cool she would come home and tell me she had to show these boy's how to change a serp belt on a truck.

Great skill for anyone to learn. Most young kids today don't learn shit for mechanical skills. I've taught a lot of boys to weld through Boy Scouts. I help teach Welding merit badge.
 
He is 10yrs old. A complete gear head. Worked with me in the garage as I built my car, so he can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about it. Lol. I did the same thing with my dad when I was his age, and the skills and confidence I got from trying stuff has gotten me far. I hope I can do the same for him.

I live on the other side of the planet for you. I'm near Filnt. 6 miles east from Grand Blanc.

Is this something that needs to have the mating panels flanged so it fits like it never happened, or more on the dirty side?
