Without taking the intake off is there anyway to tell if the cam has a wiped out lobe?

Pull the valve covers and make sure all the rockers are moving. You might need a dial indicator in case its worn just a little.

Using a dial indicator would do it.

Watch the lift and see if it's off anywhere. There will be some variance, depending on where you measure at, say lift at valve w/ hydraulic lifters vs. lift @ tappet.

compare rocker arm movement on the suspected cylinder to the same lobe (ie. Exh. or Int) on a diffrent cylinder

a quick shake of each rocker would immediately tell you if there's a bad lash problem too. could be simply an adjuster backed off too.

Rushing is good way to casue alot of costly damage in the end slow down take a breaker and double check everything...
