Taking the new car to the track for the first time tomorrow.

It's been 9 years since I made my last pass at milan. Been 9 years since I had a car that I was actually feeling excited about. This ones a turd, and it's my turd, and I love it. It's a 85 t top with some stock heads of some type (couldn't locate the casting numbers on the internet to save my life, and they're not even a e7 head), supposed .030 302, with a b cam (I'm certain about that sound), 5 speed car with a rpm air gap on it (thank you again fastford) with a 4776 Holley 600, a 5 speed, and 4.10 gears, and brand new tomorrow et streets 26x10. It has some lower control arms on it, some purple lowering springs of some sort, and a relocated battery. Small belt (not the smallest but still) with just the alternator, power steering and the water pump and a under drive crank pulley for all that it's worth. Im hoping it at least runs around 103-105 mph, and makes it back on the trailer under its own power. If not, it might be for sale CHEAP. The valve springs are holding me back the most as far as I'm concerned, but I figure, why not run it. It's all in fun right? I'll get some afr 165's eventually (more like this next winter), and have the springs set up for my cam then. But for now, I'm excited, and anxious to see what it'll do for me now, and If the valves float as I'm powershifting it, who cares! I'm just really glad to be back behind the wheel of a car I actually have feelings for. Now if I could only post a picture.....

No problem buddy, follow the above link & a few simply
steps and you're posting photos!

Imgur is pretty user friendly, if it wasn't easy to use, I couldn't
post photos!

I went, and it ran exactly what I was hoping! Very first run of the day, on brand new tires, nice smokey second gear burnout got me a 1.87 60', and a 13.76 at 103.97mph, with missing gear for a few tries, and extremely worn stock rubber bushings on the upper control arms wagging the tail the whole pass with each shift. The next pass came about half a hour later, where a nice smokey third gear burnout to continue breaking In the new tires, and that pass came In a little sower, but had a 1.807 60 ft, and a 13.899 at 102.84..... again missed third, and got the trans jammed in 4th and stuck there for about the entire shut down area before it popped back out. I let the car cool for about a hour, talked to it and asked it to help me with a clean pass, and no missed gears, and it listened. The third pass of the night gave me another 1.805 60ft, no missed shifts, and a good clean pass (very gingerly granny shifting) awarded me with a 105.9 mph run at 13.254! I know that a 106mph is good for a 12.90 run, so I gave it another shot, and was awarded with a nearly identical pass, but still no 12.90. The last pass of the night, I was next to Belleville high school auto lab I'm pretty sure. I hate to beat up on kids though, so after I got them on the 60' (another 1.802) and pulled on them in second, I decided to go ahead and miss third so bad that I couldn't find it again, and also told my stupid muffler to fall off :-D

All and all, yes it's slow, but it did better than I was asking of it, and I can't wait to get a few things tidied up, and go for the 12.90's.

And I'm gonna try the imagur thing, probably tomorrow.

Oh, one more thing too. I'm comfortable saying this cause I'm sure I'm not the only man out here that had this happen.... after getting the first pass out of the way, I was very emotional, and a very cool old dude with beauty of a comet, seemingly let me have the pass after the guys in the staging lane all heard my story about just getting back. I tracked that man down and shook his hand and said thank you. It felt so good to be back I had to actually fight tears. Especially when the car did exactly what I told everyone I hoped it would do. It was just confirmation that I might still have it. Really good night tonight!
