t56 problems and i need input.

my trans was making a sound that sounded like a rod knock but it was not consistent at all. it would knock then stop for a couple miles then start back up again. i thought it was the clutch or flywheel bolts walking themselves out so i checked that and they were still at spec. i turned the input shaft and it seems like it has a lil bit too much play and to me it sounds like something is loose on the inside of it. i just need to know if anyone has come across this or may know what it sounds like is wrong. i know without seeing it and tearing into it i will not know exactly what is wrong but i would like a rough idea on what i am up against so all serious help and responses are welcome thanks everyone who helps in advance
 
yes in every gear and neutral as well. i still have all my gears though including reverse though. i got it home from work but on the way home from work it would click or knock for a lil bit then go away then knock some more then go away and so on. under a low rpm load it didnt do it as bad
 
The input shaft bearing. Yeah they go bad alot. Also the pilot bearing will go away around the same time and then it starts eating itself.

even if the pilot bearing is brand new and only went through one summer of driving? that is pretty shitty if i have to do a pilot bearing after each summer. i know it can vary depending on what is wrong but what does it cost to rebuild one of these transmissions?

If the input bushing is bad it will eat the pilot bearing in a few miles... Take it out and have it checked out by a reputable trans shop i suggest liberty...
