I drove out to LA to go to the Chevy Super Cruise yesterday. On the way back the trans was singing like crazy. The bearing noise has been present for a while; which I thought was a rearend noise but I've since rebuilt it with the same noise afterwards. The noise has gotten REALLY bad. I almost want to say its the rear mainshaft bearing because the output shaft has alot of side play. It wont make any noise off the throttle but when I even touch the gas it whines. It developed a u joint type clicking noise at partial throttle which I believe was the main shaft jumping around. It also gets stuck in 4th gear which makes me due for a rebuild anyway.
The engine was rebuilt, and the trans has never been touched. I downloaded the service manual, and have a "how-to's". It looks relatively simple so Im going to tackle it myself, I'm certified in manual trans but I havent done a trans in a long time
let alone a T-56. For now I need the car to move. Not thinking to switching to an auto now, I can always sell my T56 down the road.
I'm looking to upgrade the 3/4 shift fork, bronze fork pads, billet keys and do a complete overhaul. Who do I goto to get these items? I'll be tearing it down next week to see what I'll exactly need. I'm looking towards DD and thegearbox.com. Isnt gear box a sponsor? Does anyone do a Military Discount? Im a cheapass
Oh and I'm also in 29 Palms California, if I were home right now, this wouldnt be so hard! Any other suggestions would be great, thanks guys!
