T-56 help!

A buddy of mine is having some serious problems with his T-56. When in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th the shifter shakes like crazy and it sound like marbles are rattling around in the transmission. It does it while coasting in gear, cruising at a steady RPM, and under mild throttle. Under WOT conditions in ANY gear the sound and vibration goes away. Doesn't exist at all in 4th gear (direct drive). Any ideas? Right now we are more curious than anything. No matter what he's getting the trans rebuilt by T56 rebuilds as soon as he can.
