swapped brake booster, no brakes now

swapped to a 9" SSBC brake booster from the factory 11".

unbolted the master cyl, did not disconnect the brake lines. just moved it forward to get the new booster in there. adjusted the brake push rod to the same length as the old one. installed it.

fired motor up, let it run up to temp. no pedal, and cant pump it up either.

there were no instructions with the kit. so nothing to double check with.

the pictures show the check valve on the bottom drivers side when mounted.

factory one was located on top passenger side. its vaccum so how can that be affected by position?

any ideas?

Bench bleed a brake booster?

Please re read my post.

The fluid portion of the braking system was untouched, not opened.

When you say "No pedal", do you mean it goes to the floor?
Got to be something with the pushrod. Go back and measure the pushrod dimensional stack-up on the pedal AND MC sides. Even with a blown booster you still have some pedal. Actually a much stiffer than normal pedal.

Check the rod at the back of the booster. Something isn't right. Even with no vacuume you should have brakes. They would just be really stiff (like manual brakes). The booster just assists the movement from the pedal to the master cylinder. I suspect that the rod is out of adjustment or just not making contact (or reduced contact).

Nope.

Old booster had 4" internal rod, new one had a 2.5" nonremovable rod.

Used a 3/8 trend push rod to make up difference

That is definately where your issue is. You need to make up that difference in length. The pedal isn't pushing the rod in the booster far enough. Try calling the tech line for the booster manufacturer. They should have something that will solve your problem. They have to have an adaptor or a way to use your old rod.
