Supra blowing a huge fireball on woodward

How many thumbs downs can the video get on youtube?

Ok, I honestly don't know.. Can somebody tell me what exactly the point is for doing that?

There is really no point in doing it at a meet like that other than to show off. Speaking from experience he's using ALS (anti-lag system). It's something us manual transmission guys use to put artificial load on the engine before a launch. Most ALS systems are similar. There are two major types; a rally style system that keeps the turbo spooled between gear shifts and is always active and a drag racing style system that works at launch and is removed once the car begins to move.

Most drag racing style systems work by allowing the tuner to retard the ignition timing while adding fuel. This creates a rich condition while the exhaust valve is still open and part of the combustion event then happens in the exhaust manifold. The rapidly expanding gas spools the turbo and thus you have boost pressure and load on the engine while not in motion (or when the clutch is still disengaged).

I don't know as much about the rally style system other than its more aggressive and often employs an additional fuel injector in or near the exhaust manifold (upstream of the turbo) this allows more raw fuel to be dumped creating a larger combustion event.

As far as shooting flames I know my car does it between shifts due to the rev limiter (I'm not using ALS). I have mine set to cut fuel and spark.

I have two theories on why this happens on my car at high rpm
1.) When ECU removes the rev limiter there is a short overlap when the exhaust valve is still open and spark is turned back on; causing combustion in the exhaust.
2.) The rapid on/off cycle of the injectors and ignition causes a brief build up of combustion gases (that still contain some fuel) during the spark/injector off cycle. When spark turns back on this creates combustion in the exhaust.

This is why you see high horsepower imports "pop" or bang at the line or between shifts.

I guess what I meant was.... I didn't/don't understand why people think it's "cool"? Maybe I missed the fascination?

Sorry for the overly drawn out explaination. Its not often I get to use my import knowledge around here haha. Anyhow I guess it follows the same principle as why ppl like to see cars do burn outs. Anyone can shoot flames or do a burn out in a parking lot... Just to show off I guess.

I heard he has like 2,197.3 HP at idle and once out ran the cops on gratiot while pulling into speedway.

at least with a burnout there is a point to it....to make the tires sticky to help with traction....i guess the fireball could cook a burger or keep bugs away?
