sump pump stench in basement

I'm noticing my basement starting to stink like the sump pump. It does run water through it, probably daily or every other day give or take so it's not just sitting. There is no cover though, just a pit.
I'm wondering if there is any ideas someone might have to get rid of the smell...

I put about a gallon of bleach in the pit and turn off pump for about two -three hours to help kill any standing bateria. Dont really know if that did anything other than help with the smell. I have a cover though...
I would make sure you get a cover for sure...

Putting an airstone with a aquarium pump in the bottom or a UV light should permanently stop the smell.

UV lights are great. We have them in the restrooms at work. So when the auto lights turn off, the UV kicks on.

How's the humidity in the basement? My dehumidifier runs almost constantly to keep humidity around 50-55%. Any more than that and the basement stinks.

I wonder if you could use the stuff that is used to treat camper / rv waste water tanks? Some of those treatments smell plesent and are safe for plumbing so I would assume they wouldn't cause issues with the internals of your pump.

My Dehumidifier Runs like that also but I still get the Stinch creeping upstairs every so often.

Make sure the traps in your floor drains have not dried out also. Put a little cooking oil in the drain to keep the water from evaporating. Make sure the sump pump doesn't cycle or you ll be pumping bleach water on your lawn. Lol.

Thats what I was thinking at first...evaporated floor drains and sewer gasses backing up...but he said smells like a sump pump.:hmm: I guess I never went pee in a sump crock (my luck the dam thing would turn on while I'm peeing and electrocute me) so I never experienced odors from the crock before.

What is draining into the crock?

Is the washer draing Into it? That can cause some funk. Lowes ' sells 24" sheets of plexiglas just cut out for your discharge line and power cord and caulk around the outer edge and 1.5" discharge pipe
