My 2016 Chrysler 300S nightmare...

I guess my family is the outlier around here. 14 Charger with 0 problems since the day I bought it. Well, it had a battery overcharge issue but replaced the post and nothing since. So you could say it had 1 problem, but nothing repeatable. 14 Durango. 0 problems and love both of those. My 13 RAM had electrical problems. I just traded it in. My mom had a 14 300. don't think it ever went into the shop. She has a 16 300s V6 now with 0 problems for the 6 months that she's owned it. Her only complaint is the gear shifter gets fucking hot in the sun since it's chrome covered. I'll give you the electrical problems on the RAM, but outside of that one vehicle I've had no major issues with my Dodges.

I had a 14 Charger AWD Hemi and really liked it. That being said I would NEVER buy one.

My buddy works on police cars down south. All the Hemi cars are eating cams. They need a complete upper end build at around 70k miles.

When I was looking at buying a used Grand Cherokee I was warned by more then one service advisor about the motor problems.

Who is this Friend you speak of .....that works for the Wake county Sheriff department and wanted a charger right up until he found out how bad the 5.7... were?!?! ;)

Put 25k miles on my 2016 super track pack. I never get tired of this car and have never had a single issue - granted it's only a year old.

I figure I'll have about 50k by the time I turn it back in. We'll see if anything pops up by then.

I never said where he worked or his name. He talked me out if a used Grand Cherokee.

As you know, my wife works for Chrysler... between us and her parents, we've owned it leased a lot of Chryslers over the past 7 years...

Her dad:
Bought 2007 Hemi Ram new, no problems, sold it in 2012 with 75k to his nephew who is over 100k with it. No issues ever.
Bought 2012 Hemi Ram new, nearing 50k miles, only issue was a sputter switching between MDS modes. Resolved.

Her mom:
Leased 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for three years, no problems
Leasing 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, no problems thus far

Wife:
Leased 2008 Charger SXT for 2 years, most of the front suspension replaced under warranty, wore out the tires unevenly and fast, dealer tried to charge her for new tires, told them no way, was due to a known issue with the car
Leased 2010 Hemi Ram, a few recalls, pitting in chrome bumpers, leaking pinion seal, fixed under warranty
Leased 2012 Durango R/T, great truck, no problems at all
Leased 2014 Chrysler 300S, our nightmare vehicle... issues with strange noises, horrible transmission, alternator replaced under warranty, etc etc... traded it in after a year because we didn't trust it
Leasing 2015 Ram V6, all good so far

Me:
Bought 2007 Cherokee SRT8, shit interior for the price, excessive front camber destroys tires, but no real issues, sold with about 45k on it.
Leased 2012 Dodge Journey... oddball electrical issues with the radio (full blast randomly on startups, scrolling through stations randomly for minutes on end) that they couldn't fix. No other problems
Leased 2014 Charger RT, check engine light came in at 315 miles for a trans code, disappeared the next day and never came back. No other issues
Buying 2015 Journey RT, no issues so far (8k miles)

Letting your wife drive a higher mileage Chrysler is borderline spousal abuse... Ha

Whoa whoa whoa. My fiance has an 08 Avenger with 160k on the clock, and it has been a great little car. I replaced the oil pan and one window regulator. Other than that, just maintenance. However, 90% of those miles are highway miles, she commuted from Sterling Heights to Port Huron for work. Thank God she doesn't any more. If those were city miles I'm sure the car would be in a boneyard somewhere....
We're saving for our wedding, so hopefully it'll last until then, & she'll get something new.

Take that '42 and drop in a crate Hemi with a ZF 8HP and a bitchin' paint job. Your old lady will be famous lol

Besides, I gotta keep the inline 8 in that 42 based on cool factor alone. That, and the hood is 10 feet long......

Wow - no offer for buyback yet??

The dealer claims they've inquired with Chrysler about it. I am also in touch with Chrysler directly but they seem to be choosing their words very carefully at this point and are "discussing my situation internally".

You symptom does not sound like cats. I would be surprised if they offered a buyback, you are probably going to have to contact them and seek a buyback. Wait until they are done with the repair though.

As far as the speaking internally, they could just be referring to talking to the tech assistance line or getting a Field Service Engineer (corporate tech) to come perform the diag.

The car was running great after the previous repairs. This time the CEL came out of nowhere, but the car did smell weird from time to time especially after highway driving.

Hmm, well cats are starting to make more sense, possibly melted down after the initial O2 issue.

CEL is back and car is back in service for the 4th time. They are replacing both cats this time.

Sorry to hear of all the trouble Bart. Looks like you have grounds for a refund.

Question: What if the problem I reported to the manufacturer or its authorized dealer continues to persist?Answer: You may be able to obtain a refund of the purchase or lease price or a comparable replacement vehicle if the problem persists after a reasonable number of repair attempts.
Question: What is considered a reasonable number of repair attempts?
Answer: It is presumed that a reasonable number of repair attempts have been taken if one of the following occurs:
(a) The same defect or condition continues to exist even though the car has been subjected to repair a total of four or more times within two years of the date of the first attempt to repair the defect or condition.
(b) The vehicle is out of service because of repairs for a total of 30 or more days or parts of days during the term of the manufacturer's express warranty or within one year from the date of delivery to the original consumer, whichever comes first. This option does not require the same problem to be the cause of the days out of service.
