Strange sound from the roof of my 03 GMC Sierra Z71

On the headliner of my truck, near the top of the driver door is what looks like a little speaker grille, about the size of a quarter. When the truck is started cold, this area makes a sound like a small motor that's got bad bearings. If I smack it with my hand, then noise stops, then starts again for a while. No idea what's up there or what could be making the noise.

Once the interior warms up, it stops. Anyone have a thought? :dontknow:

Anyone know the name of this part, or better yet, and p/n? I can't find it anywhere. Probably because I don't know what it's called.... :/

lol, I thought that was a speaker for on-star making that noise in my 03 z71.

Mine sorta sounds like a speaker that is crackling or picking up interference.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the same thing or even if the older trucks had them as an option but the new trucks usually have 3 noise cancelling mics that can drive you nuts with strange noises,( they cause the audio systems to produce an opposite frequency from what they pick up) It's a great idea but doesn't work so great. I unplug them all the time for people
