Stock Block?

I am debating putting the hose on my car and i'm just curious what stock 5.0 blocks can really handle. I know i've read that 450-500hp is about the limit but I know people that have never had any issues with them making far more than that. I have all forged internals so that shouldn't be a problem. It also has a dss main girdle on it as well. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated. Thanks, Jake

10.20s is close to the limit. any more than that and the tune has to be really safe.

a girdle is simply a bandaid. i wouldnt push a stock block past 500 horse, and thats on a safe tune. the 69-74 302 blocks are stronger due to the higher nickel content, and there a thicker wall casting. roller blcks are thin wall castings and dont live well past 500-550hp

I know a girdle is just a little extra but I guess it's better to have it than not to have it. I'm not sure where i'm at right now as far as horsepower but my car should go low 11's at best on motor. I was thinking of only doing a 100 shot to start out but I really can't afford to blow my stuff up.

ive been spraying 200 for 2 years with no issues,i have stock everything, the only up grade is arp head bolts and motorsport headgaskets, like i told you before i will help you with it,we will set it up safe, you know how my junk runs.

RPM is going to be the other limitation to the stock block. Anything north of 7k and the main caps could start walking.

I watched a guy on here - Qwiksilver - crack his block aon a low 10 / high 9 pass at Norwalk a few years ago. Just be safe about it.
