stock 5.0 5speed and B303 cam question

A coworker just picked a stock 91LX, all he wants to do is make this a summer cruiser. Only mods will be exhaust, cai, short throw, and cam. He loves the B303 cam but wants to know if a tune is really necessary after installing it. Im thinking so but I dont know much when it comes to the 5.0. Car is only a weekend crust with heat and ac still. Thanks

Sure it would be optimal with a tune but back in the 90's we never tuned stuff like we do today and they still ran good.

Its gonna need a tune or it will surge at idle put that 200 towards a intake or something else. Unless he is ok with stoping at every light and it wants to stall!!!

There are ways to get around the idle surge, but it will more then likely have driveabilty issues. I did the exact thing you described as my first mods and engine would act funny intermittently and idle surge from time to time

My first alternative tune was like 550 but that included chip might be differant price now ask doctor he could tell you.

just get an adjustable TPS plate and he can get it to go away that way.
