State may extend bar hours

I'm starting to see things your guys' way...yea....people can be drunk at any time. Broad day light they can be wasted.
 
Why bother with restricting operating hours at all? Let the proprietor decide their hours of operation to maximize profits. As long as the business is observing local ordinances, let them decide on which schedule they can earn their money. Businesses in more industrial areas could cater to 2nd and 3rd shift workers openly instead of operating a speak easy.

Just because a bar is open until 5 AM doesn't mean I HAVE to power drink until 5AM. I'm an adult. I know there are heavy consequences for my actions. Don't hamstring my life just to protect me from myself.
 
I can get hammered at 2:00, taco bell at 2:30, in bed by 3:00 and still make it to work. Move that to 4:00 and it's not going to happen.
 
I have to say that Ive seen many times where the bartenders here in Philly pay LOTS more attention than those in MI regarding how much individuals have had too much to drink. they will cut people off and sometimes and having the bars open later allows those drunk people to hang out with their friends and sober up rather than get tossed out.

If that was the case in MI why don't more places go smoke free by choice?
I'm not a fan of gov't forcing things like this.

im not either but in this case, its not necessarily "big gov't" but rather local and state gov't which im OK with seeing that it will be voted on by the people and I believe they know whats better for their community than any big gov't would know.
 
I think the smoke tolerance goes down with age.

Back in the days when we used to go to Canada, people smoked everywhere, and it didnt bother me. Didnt really notice it on my clothes. Now when we go to lunch to this pub down the road, you have to walk through the smoking section, to get to the non smoking section. I always feel like i'm going to puke.
 
Black Lotus has been smoke free since it opened. I thought it was voluntary but Clawson may have a ban that I don't know about.
 
I don't realy know where I stand on this issue. There are pro's can con's to both of these. I would sometimes like to stay out till 4am on the weekends but I know that the bar shutting down at 2am has saved me from my drunken sel a few times on week nights.
 
I think 4am would spread out some of the "2am bar traffic." I personally would never stay until 4am. even if I had a DD, I would make sure they would want to leave before 4 (usually a DD wants to leave ASAP anyway, lol)
 
Raleigh and Columbus OH have smoking ban's Its great! I go out more than I used to because i hated smelling like ass.

Atlanta Has a curfue of 4:30am in Atlanta proper bars are open 24/7 It was GREAT!!! get drunk at the bar then have the DD take you to Waffle House to sober up.
 
I don't smoke and go out of my way to head out for lunch at 1:00pm or at a non main bar time so I don't have sit by a bunch of shitheads chain smoking while I'm trying to eat.
4:00am who cares. make it 24/7 like New Orleans, people will be drunk all night anyway. Shit if half of you don't know where to go to drink till 4:00am here in Detroit I'll laugh... (but I am damn near 40 so we started young) :)
