State may extend bar hours

I'm all for 2:00 bar closing time...when its later people just show up to the bar at 12:00 instead of 10:00...and the next day doesnt suck as bad esp if you have to get up early.

It wont happen until they put in a stipulation allowing smoking in casinos.

The state makes too much money at the casinos, and like 80% of the people who gamble regualrly smoke.

I think the 4am limit is a good thing. but it should be a higher fee, 1500? any decent bar will make that back in one night. Should be like 10k. It will also be optional, plus the state will get more DUIs out of the deal, so its a win-win for the feds

Casino of Windsor(Ceasars) did a study and found out they gained more business by banning smoking in the casino and installing smoker's rooms and desiganated areas...

I don't see the ban happening either, but it's a joke that it won't happen.

look here....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smoking_bans_in_the_United_States

Many states have banned it in all places or certain. I'll take certain areas. Anything is better than nothing.

A local resturant owner banned smoking on Sundays only....he said his business doubled on Sunday's and is HIGHLY considering banning it 7 days a week.

i dont see the smoking ban passing in michigan. I dont know how many people i can count when im working with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other

My uncle and cousin who own a sushi bar in Ferndale baned smoking from there place... Never had a problem and got tons of compliments from it...

Ive gotta say that a smoking ban would be great for MI, here in Philly its SOOOOOO nice. I absolutely hate smoking and being in a smokey bar, it would keep me from going to lots of places in MI. Now, I live at the bars here in Philly.

As for widening the serving hours on sundays and later every other day. Living in Philly where the bars are open until 4am, I cant say as though there are any more accidents than there are in MI. And for opening up early on sundays, Im not religious so it doesnt bother me.

I'm against a smoking ban as well. As long as smoking is legal, it is up to the establishment owner to allow smoking or not. Patrons have the choice to go or not.

Do you realize that sales/patrons here in Philly almost doubled after the smoking ban? there are LOTS of people that dont go to the bars for exactly that reason, now they are and the businesses love it. helps the non-smokers, helps the local businesses, helps the local economy, helps the smokers in quiting now that they have to go outside (hassle).

man i dont like smoke, but its gonna take a lot more than cigarettes to keep me out of a bar

damn can get my responses in quick enough. If it worked in Ferndale, good chance im wrong. Im used to a building that can hold 3,000 people easy. So the smaller bars it would probably be great in, a larger complex, i dont know. If a bunch of smaller places did it first then it migrated to the larger complexes, i can see it happening within the next few years. They better dump some heavy ad dollars and get a good spokesperson behind it though.

I can only imagine how nice it would be to have a smoke free bar. I feel more pain the next day after a night of heavy smoke than I do from pounding beers. Last Thursday sucked at the alley. WAAY too much smoke.

And as for selling before Noon Sunday...I could care less about going to a bar before 12 on a Sunday, but honestly...I was pist when I was at Kroger at 11am picking up stuff for a BBQ and the lady tells me I can't buy beer til Noon, when I had all types of shit in my basket. I'm not drinking...I'm buying. I think you should be able to buy at 10 or 11 versus 12.

Why is it the responsibility of the lawmakers if you get too drunk and drive home and kill someone?

Bars can sell alcohol all day long, just because you move the close time from 2am to 4am doesnt mean anyone will consume more alcohol. If I wanted to goto a bar for exactly 6 hours, I wouldnt need to go from 10-4, I could go from 8-2

Most drinkers smoke and most smokers drink, I personally think it's a stupid law. Although I hate the smell of smoke, and don't smoke myself.

4:00am is a little late, not sure how that would work out.

I also think if you want to drink at 7:30am on a Sunday, you should be able to.

X2, I dont see any correlation in "more drunks from 2 more hours" at all. I can go get wasted in 10 minutes if I really wanted to but its my choice to be a responsible person not to do so. its not the lawmakers responsibility.

People are idiots and will remain so for as long as im on this earth. Some will choose to drink and drive. do I condone it, absolutely not, but Im smart enough to realize I cant fix stupid.

I agree...but you know how it is at the bar all late and shit. Once people get going, they don't wanna stop. So 2 becomes 3 and then 4 all the sudden, they are plowed beyond recognition.

I think 4am is a little late as well. You start messing with the morning commute at 4-5am. People are gonna be going to work to earn money for their family, while the drunks will be driving home from the bar and or Coney Island.

I think Chicago has the late night bar thing and it is pretty cool. They go until 6 am on Saturday's too. And as far as there being more DUI's, if someone is a drunken idiot at 2 am, I can't see any difference at 4 am. Making the assumption that a person who would be sober at 2 am but drunk at 4 am doesn't make sense to me. The people who drive drunk will do it no matter what time the bar closes.
