Sport Bikers in here......

My girlfriend is currently looking at buying a bike. Her ex's sister has a 2007 Ninja (500cc) with under 500 miles on it for $4500 (I checked KBB and it came up for $4000). I know there are alot of decent bikes for under $3K (250cc's or so). What bikes should she start looking at for a good starter bike? The cheaper the better, but we don't want a junk heap thats been laid down and beat to hell either.

If I can afford it this summer, I'll probably end up on one also since I don't really want her riding alone. Keep in mind neither of us have ever ridden before! Are there any good deals on new bikes? Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated...

My buddies wife has a ninja 250. She probably weighs 105 lbs soaking wet and it's a perfect bike to start out on. My brothers g/f is about the same size and has the same bike, good size for a small girl.

So you have never ridden a "sport bike", or just ridden bikes in general? Also, how old are you guy's?

His and her 'Busas ;)

500 Ninjas or 500GS Sukuki's would be a great bet. You can get a Buell Blast really cheap for her as well.

She's just ridden on the back of some Harley's but no "sport bikes." I've never ridden at all except some ATV's. We're both 21 (as if it matters).

'Busas.....:secret:

I'll keep my eye out for the bikes mentioned above! Like everyone else, my g/f is 5'0" and 105 or so, so she doesn't need much of bike.

Finally, someone who says "sport bike" and not "crotch rocket"...which is the 4-wheeled equivalent of calling nitrous, "NAWS!."

LOL, Coming from someone who learned how to ride a bicycle (w/o training wheels) at what? 12? 13?

Anyways, stupidity is for another thread back on topic!

you can find older 500cc's or the buell blast which is affordable and cheap. good luck with learning to ride be safe . Hopefully you dont continue the bad rep. sport bikes always seem to maintain.

A 600 will feel more comfortable for her and easier to learn how to ride..Plus you can lower the 600's where it is very difficult to lower a 500 or 250!!!Trust me a friend of mine got a 500 Suz she had never ridin before thought it was a great starter bike,NO...She had to have it lowered which was a pain in the ass for us to do for her because of the front triple tree!!You sit up high the handle bars are like dirt bike style(not safe feeling)Then once she gets the hang of it she will hate it TRUST ME!!!I feel the 600 is perfect for a starter bike then as she gets more experienced and feels she wants more it's easy to mod for cheap,Or if she doesnt like it at all and want's to get rid of it you will be able to get your money out of it!!!I'm a girl who rides bikes trust me on this.Just my 2 cents sorry ;-)

Yeah, I don't like how you sit up so high on the Ninja...we'll be looking around for a little while. I'll keep my eye out for a decent priced 600. Thanks for the tips..

You should be able to pick up a FZR 600 for cheap & you probably don't want one in prestine condition if it is gonna be used as a starter bike.

If I was you I'd be looking for older 600. The honda CBR 600 like the F2 0r F3 don't have the power the newer ones do so it'll be safer to learn on. There are a shit load of parts both mod a replacement available for them. If you want some good advice go to this board http://sbw.sportbikes.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=256

great group of friendly people. The bad thing is insurance will kill you being under the age of 25. BEFORE you buy any bike get the vin and call your insurance company to see how much it cost. State Farm has always been one of the cheapest and I never had a problem with them. I was paying $350 a year on my 2000 ZX6-R and $450 for my Zx9-R but I'm much older then 25. at the age of 21 I'd guess you'll pay about $1200 per yer on the smaller bikes IF you have a clean record

Having a sport bike for a first bike is generally not a good idea. Especially someone who might be prone to doing stupid shit on it. Get like a shadow or a rebel 250, something like that until she learns the basics for a year or two. Then get the sport bike.

VTR250, I learned to ride on at the age of 14. I was about 200lbs and 6'2'' at 14. Untill I sold it a couple weeks back it was a still a sick bike at my current 260lbs 6'5''. It could outturn most crotch rockets and especially heavier bikes.
