Spool in a street car?

Thinking about going with a mini spool but the car will see 95% street time, should I just stick with a limited slip?

I have a spool in my comet it kinda a pain in the ass ya have to take wide turns so you don't snap it

From my experence they are a little finicky on the street....I have always stuck with limited slip. Expecially if you will only be drag racing it for fun occasionally. The turns are tough with the spool.

Ok, I kinda figured that would be the general opinion, just looking to put the most power to the floor possible

We run them on the street, no problems yet. The majority of the issue comes with the C clip eliminator you WILL want to use if using a spool. Since they are aluminum they don't put up with the side load abuse that the c clip bearing set ups will. If you take corners too hard with an eliminator after while you;ll tear the bearing up and have rear end dope leaking. Depending on how much power you're going to make go with a c clip axl 33 spline and strange's bad A$$ posi unit.

If you drive it 95% on street just be aware the eliminator will be your biggest isue, not posi V spool. Only way to get around this is to go to a 9" end!period...

Did it for many years. Worst part is pushing it around turns.

x2. I ran a spool for years on the street with stock axles and never broke anything. I did take it out though. I went with less gear and had a pumpkin already set up with a posi on the shelf I swapped in.

My coupe had one and it worked OK on the street.

Plus they make a car a BITCH to push if you have to jockey it around.

If I was building an axle I would probably just go with a Ford 31 spline unit with the CF clutches.

We run them in our Jeeps (actually mine is el cheapo welded), no problems in the years of doing so.

I've been using one for a long time with big slicks on it. Its not a IRS rear end, but i drive just fine. Eats up tires though REAL fast on the street.

I've done it, would probably never do it again if it was a car that I drove 95% of the time on the street. If it was a weekend cruiser/strip car I would probably put up with it.

i did in my old 91...wasnt the best for street driving for sure. wouldnt do it on a 50/50 street-track car. IF you mainly stripe...yes...but other than that...no

I have a spool in my car with zero problems. It chirps a little but it doesnt bother me. DONT do c-clip eliminators, do ford bearing ends. They last longer and hardly ever leak. If the seal comes out of it, you can go to the parts store down the street and get the parts. It also has only one place to leak from as opposed to c-clip elim which has two places to leak from.
